Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Despite not as magnificent as its “brother” Zacapa XO, the Solera 23 is a great rum. The bouquet is só pleasant, and it has a taste that is at once bold and delicate, with a discrete sweet after taste. A little expensive, but worths the price. All considered, a perfect choice.
A go to for first time for straight rum drinking. Good value
Very pleasant smell, definitely sweet. I genuinely like drinking this as a dessert. It doesn't need to breathe for too long before the sweetness comes out.
Balanced, not to sweet, pleasant taste, but for a 23yo it lacks a unique feature that would make it distinctive and exceptional
It wasn't a disappointment but it was really sweet. The XO is more worth the price.
Great rum if your starting out in the rum world and are looking to spend a bit
Zacapa is the reason I got into rum. My dad introduced me and loves it. I did too, but once I start something, I tend to dig deeper. After having tried some more rums, I now think Zacapa is at best a seven. The added sugar makes me want a glass of water besides it.
It's also not as fresh or exciting as many other rums. I think Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Edition is significantly better at around the same price point, if you're looking for a swwet dosed rum, that is.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Ron Zacapa 23 Solera around 7.5, considering its smoothness, complexity, and overall quality. However, taste can be subjective, so it might vary depending on personal preferences.
