Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Son in law surprised me with this bottle at Easter and we all enjoyed. Loved the nose, taste was very approachable and noted how enjoyable the heat was. This was a great sipper and don't have anything bad to say about this bottle. On the sweeter side and looking good behind the bar!
The nose gives me a rich caramel note with a hint of spice. On the pallet, a citrus spice combo takes over. This is ok for me but I have other, cheaper Rum that I prefer to this.
An average rum that is good to drink on a casual occasion. Its price is acceptable. Similar category to Diplomatico Reserva.
I really enjoyed this one, yes it is on the sweeter side but nothing like ron millonario solera. Would buy this again, yes.
Luxurious rum boasting rich flavors of caramel, honey, and dark chocolate. Silky texture with a lingering finish.
My favorite flavor profile, only rum I enjoy sipping regularly, worth the price
Bit in the front, smooth at the end. Great for all occasions
Okay rum that IMO does neither deserve the attention nor the price tag
Smell: Pleasant but easily forgettable. There is nothing special about it. There are the classic hints of vanilla, sugar, and some oranges, and also a little bit of rubber-like smell. Overall quite sweet. Taste: On a first sip, I immediately thought that while it was not a bad rum, I wouldn't go for it again. However, it slowly became ever so slightly more interesting than that. It is very easy to drink with no strong flavors or alcohol burn. It has a medium sweetness, which is not very "natural". There are notes of wood and pecans. The aftertaste is bittersweet with a lingering oily effect. In the end, quite good!
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Good rum, but it was better before, perhaps something has changed in production.
