Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

As many have said, this is sweet. It is also smooth and pleasant on the pallet. I tried a glass at a hotel in Italy where they accompanied it with 2 squares of Majani Venezia Dark Chocolate - the rum paired with the bitterness exceedingly well. Something to try if you wanted to add some extra pizzazz to your sweet rum serving.
Très bon rhum, goût recherché et appréciable.
Un peu dispendieux.
A little too much sweetness for the age, but is still sipable, not bad for someone starting their aged rum journey
Slightly more heady due to being a bit stronger than usual. Smokey and not too sweet
Easy to drink neat, haven’t mix it with anything yet but i also haven’t felt the need to.
The first time I had it, didn’t love it, so was hesitant to try again years later. Can’t find my Diplomatico so working through some other brands. I seem to have trouble with the Caribbean rums. This was fine and I would buy again if on sale. lol. On sale in Canada, ya, no such thing.
Color is dark amber. Taste very smooth with no off flavor. Very good taste experience.
Third tasting on Quantum of the Seas. Balanced taste with alcohol zing at the edges. Overall honey and vanilla flavors.
Alcohol is everywhere - in a taste and in the air. But I like its long aftertaste.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

On the nose it smells like diplomatico but a bit leathery with a hint of alcohol. However, the taste is burnt sugar and the burn sets in immediately. When it goes down it burns less but for me this is not a sipper, more a mixer for cocktails.
