Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

One of those trustworthy rums - equally at home sipped over a large ice cube during winter, or mixed into Cuba Libre with a twist of lime in summer time!
A super smooth, rich, deep rum. Full of warmth and smoothness.
The distribution of this rum is massive: any restaurant with a decent drinks list has it.
It is more marketing than quality.
The taste is not bad but it’s not smooth at all.
Luckily I didn’t buy it but I had the chance to order it in a restaurant (11€ for a 20dc glass).
A nice rich dark colour and sweet chocolate an nutty aroma leads to a smooth caramel and fruity taste without being overly or artificially sweet. A very nice supper. Will definitely have another.
Easy to drink, sweet and not too dry. More hype than quality
I've not been a fan of Zacapa in the past, but this one really impressed me.
This stuff is fine, I don't agree with the reviews that say it's too sweet...it certainly ain't no Bumbu but honestly I got more of a whiskey taste from it...? I mean, the box claims that it was aged in whiskey barrels but the taste is almost too much like whiskey. That being said, it's pretty nice and smooth and actually works well mixed in a punch. The after taste is quite nice too...and that's coming from a guy that doesn't normally like whiskey! Or whatever the hell this is!
Sweet with notes of vanilla and chocolate. Easy drinking sipper
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Very dark Smokey chocolate flavor to it. Easy to drink
