Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I recently tried this rum and it was so damn good. I went on a cruise and every bar had this rum. I had bought this rum before I went on the cruise so I knew it was great. I always asked for this rum and all the Jamaican, Bahamian, bartenders would always ask "how do you know about this rum" best rum on the ship. I drank at least 7 bottles lol. A bottle a day. seriously!!!!
Love it!
Straight up, Mixed drinks, and cola. All great!!!
This is good... Really good. It is, in some aspects, always in the back of my mind. Classic rum at its finest, sort of. Well balanced in any way!
OK. I like sweet rums. I like dry ones too, but that is a different story. This rum has it all. Sweet, but not too sweet, and oh so many different tastes in one rum as it travels along your taste-buds. Straight up, of course!
Belle couleur, jolie senteur boisée, un rhum qui n'est pas fort en bouche avec une belle presence
floral with strong aromas de ginebra, liquorice. Spicy mouth with something I don't like at first then caramel, sweetness. Strong alcohol at the end but nicely settling down.
I was a little disappointed first time I tried this one, but it has grown on me. The thing I like is the clear connection to the different barrels it has been aged in. I can clearly find both sherry and wine tones in it, but what stands out is the whiskey tones. It is fairly smoky for being a rum and I didn't expect that. The taste stays fairly long and leaves a pleasant after taste. I like that it doesn't have anything of that typical rum-raisin taste but the flavors leans more to sugar cane, fudge and caramel. Easy to get where I live so for me this is my "all weather" rum.
The package suggests putting a large ice cube in the glass and I would strongly vote against it! All flavors were gone and you were left with a very bland and boring liquor. So drink it room tempered, straight up!
Excellent. Perfect blend of Carmel and spice. One ice cube. The best
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Good choice for beginners, but I prefere more Diplomatico 12y. Also overpriced in my POV - for similar price you can find much better rum. But good " minimum ethalon " for comparison - if I find some rum better than this Zacapa, than can stay in my cabinet :-)
