Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Best rum I have tasted. Smooth and sweet, but not too sweet.
Great rum. It really suprised me. Sweet taste and lots of flavours to taste. One of the better Rum I taste in a longer time!
Solid quality rum. But theres something missing. I was hoping for a mind blowing experience drinking this rum with the hype. It's good but not amazing. Nice flavours come through, not harsh and you can appreciate what's going on.
Great bottle and colour.
A good rum to start your rum adventure. Everybody can drink it and thus is good rum to introduce for new rum drinkers who thinks rum is nonsence.
Nice and oaky, has some bourbon-y notes. Overall very tasty!
Except for a very few reserve selections, many of which I've only discovered recently, I consider R Z 23 to be worthy of "gold standard" status. We have blind taste-tested it neat against rums like Bacardi Casa Reserve, and it's own brother the Zacapa XO...and the R Z 23 is simply so smooth and tasty it is never embarrassed in a comparison. So I rated it "only" a 9...but could consider it a more available, affordable "ten".
This was the first expensive rum that I've tried and completely changed my view on not even rums, but alcohol in general. It is really great though price is quite high, while Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva does 95% of the job for me for less money. A bit sweet, but I can handle 3-4 glasses anytime. I recommend this for everybody. Especially if you are introducing quality alcohol to your friends. You can add some stories about the Solera system as well :)
This rum has changed a lot in the last 10 years. It use to be good, sweet and complex. Now it is more sweetness and alcohol. You can easily taste that it now only have an average age of less than 6 years :-(
En mycket god rom, när jag provade denna första gången blev den snabbt en favorit.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.
