Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I really enjoy this rum. I love the smell, sweetness and overall taste!
This rum was nice, but in past few yeara it has become too commercial and quality went down. Still for its price it is not bad.
Very smooth. No bite at the end at all. Interesting that this is a blend of years.
I bought this at roughly the same time as the Plantation XO 20th Anniversary, which I like a bit more. Both are balanced, rich, and on the sweet side of sipping rums. The Zacapa is just a tad less smooth, and since it was also more expensive, it loses a point on the Plantation XO. With that said, I would definitely buy again if it's on discount.
nice rum that's on the sweeter side.
great for sipping or cocktails.
Great place to start when you are ready to move up to the major leagues.
Good value and much more preferred to the Brugal 1888.
I bought this as a graduation present to myself after having the Zaya 12yr which I lover due to the sweetness. What the Zaya lacked in boldness I thought I'd find in this 23yr. Although it was a bolder flavor I was expecting something sweeter and smoother like the Zaya. It's ok served over ice but I keep thinking it's missing something. It's better when used as an old fashioned but for that I prefer Platation Pineapple.
I thought I'd found it but sadly the hunt for the perfect sipper continues.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

It is hard to find any faults in this rum. From the smell, the smoothness of the taste, the aftertaste, all just keeps me want to drink more. I always drink it neat or on the rock
