Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

it's just not quite an 8. Kirk & Sweeney is the best I've found and what I'm ranking and comparing other things against for now. This is better than Zaya but not a K&S.
On second bottle a few months later this is clearly just a 7. I have since had some VERY good rums that have put this into perspective.
Too sweet for $47. I was hoping to find a great rum, but this doesn't cut it.

Le Ron Zacapa est sans nul doute le rhum qui m'a fait découvrir les grands rhum. Suave, subtil, savoureux c'est définitivement le rhum à avoir pour convaincre les aficionado du scotch ou du cognac, qu'il y a aussi de grands rhum.
Ive had a few bottles of this and it was the first "quality" rum i had tasted. I didnt think it was too sweet at all. Seemed like a burbon or along those lines to me. Very nice straight up

It's a good rum regardless of the age statement just as Appleton or el Dorado.

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Chocolate, molasses, maybe a little walnut. Clean but not exceptionally smooth. A nose that screams "this is rum" with its dark and sweet qualities.
