Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Great color flavor is exceptional from sherry cask to being aged at altitude. Worth the price.
about a year ago i was looking for something to break my whiskey habit (which since every discovered bourbon has gotten too damned expensive. i traded some secrete faves with a pal at the local bev store and he suggested i try this. it's superb. as my pallet grows i find it a bit sweet, but really i could easily take this as my desert island liquor and never regret it. wonderful nose, easy to drink. takes ice well, which opens up more of the barrel and cuts some of the sweetness, priced very well for what it is.
Above all I like it’s text in mouth. Round and balanced
Personally I am a big fan of minimum aging politics, so this 23 yo Solera is a big fat lie for me, it is just to impress people that are attracted to big numbers. This rum has not been aged for 23 years, a little part of it has, most of it is 6-8. That said, I think this rum is overrated, its aftertaste has too much Vanilla, that covers most of the flavours, also it is very sweet, surely it has added sugar. I was really disappointed (here the bottle is sold for 45€, too much for this rum)
Great color, a little tricky in that many people would see the bottle and believe it is a 23 year old rum but it isn't, it is a Solera blend. Smooth, nice color, just a little too much added sweetness to make it my favourite - my wife does love it though. I would recommend this rum to someone wanting to venture out and ease their way into drinking rum neat
Nice flavours. Still a bit sharp though. But nice for the price
Buen ron para tomar solo. Bastante dulce, con regusto a uva pasa y naranja.
Definitely not bad. But for me too much oak and to less softness in aftertaste. And in the end I feel cognac...
Tastes great. I'm not quite a connoisseur yet but this might be my favorite out of the rums I've tried so far.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

I love caramel and this tasted like caramel to me.
