Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Had this at a restaurant in Michigan. It was the best rum they had so I had to try it. Not as smooth as the XO but very drinkable. I would recommend this.

A good quality sipping rum. I enjoy over a single ice cube. Zacapa 23 has been my “gateway rum”.

This is a decently sippable rum, though I can't help but feel somewhat deceived reading about the added colors and flavors. I'd say the sweetness lingers longer than it ought to for a neat spirit, and to my palate dominates any other subtle notes that might've otherwise had a chance to seep through. It took me a while to finish the bottle until I realized that it serves as a tasty base for cocktails and punches calling for dark rum, but I would not buy it again for that purpose based on the price alone, which local to me is within the same price range as a sippable single malt Scotch.

This is perfect on pancakes during your bottomless brunch. Fine flambeed on your bananas foster. A great first sip of a Guatemalan industrial spirit, or even dark rum (C'mon, ween yrslf off that Kraken or whatever Myer's / Gosling's candy you like).

If you want dementia, drink a lot of sugar. The 23 Solera is a fine vehicle for this poison.

Sur la cassonade, la crème brûlée, le caramel et une touche de vanille. Une belle complexité en bouche avec un peu d'épices. La finale est longue et douce

I know it's a fake, heavily sweetened rum, but I enjoy it a lot.

Reference rum for excellence.
I started from here and then discovered that there are better rums.
