Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

A extremely overrated rum, works to sip on if you arealready drunk.
Price, packaging, botte all is made to attract the eye. But don't open it!
How deceiving is the rum !
In my mind, the greasy note of coconut is the most disapointing taste offre this rum.
Overall, I don't understand the 23 years old, it's a blend not a single barrel ! Time is lost.
The bottle is now empty, the secret is soda, large amounts of the well known soda!
At first, i really liked it. Then, after a while the sweetness was, for my taste, just too overpowering. One glass at a time. Being a Solera type of rum, i m not sure if they only pore rum in the next barrels - spiced sugar by the intensivity of it.
Perfect balance. Coffe, honey, fruits, litle bit of alcohol nad sweetness.

Great colour, great aroma, but to me slightly sour. I compared it to Plantation XO recently, and it loses out to it for my palette. It's good, but not that good. Nice packaging though, looks premium.
This is the one that started it all for me regarding rum. I didnβt know aged rum existed until I met this perfection in a snifter. The only reason this doesnβt get a 9 is because Ron Abuelo Centuria exists. Ron Zacapa is just the standard perfectly balanced caramel notes with just the right amount of burn followed by a vanilla finish that keeps you refilling your glass.
This rum should be, but the 23 has been sweetened to make it more appealing to the American palate. Also, this is not a 23 yr old rum, it is a Solera blend of aged rum the OLDEST of which is 23 yrs, the average age is
There's no doubt, Zacapa 23 is great for the rum industry. I'd guess its the most prevalent aged rum out there, and brought many newcomers to rum. this is a good started rum if you like sweet. For the more experienced drinkers there are plenty other expressions to choose.
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.
