This is the young unaged version of the Hampden LROK 6 Years. The label tells us about 350gr/hlpa of esters and a threatening 62,5% abv. Distilled and bottled in 2018 this rum has never seen a wooden cask but probably spent a few months in steel tanks.
In the glass you get a fruity and heavy flowery punch on your nose. I smell prunes and pears, old apples but also overripe tropical fruits. It's like a walk in the countryside in late summer when the ripened fruits are falling from the trees and start rotting on the ground, filling the air with sweet and heavy aromas and the bees and wasps are feasting on them. In the back there's a faint hint of sundried seafood and algaes.
In the mouth it behaves surprisingly civilized, offers a refreshing sweetness and underlines the fruity hints given in the nose. I'm very much reminded of southern German fruit brandies, pear, prune, greengage...you name it, although those give a much stronger burn at only 40% abv. Sunchoke with banana peel, fruits and Turk's cap lily...very complex for such a young fellow! Not for everybody, but a very interesting expression of a Hampden Mark that I never had the chance before to try.
Make a Daiquiri you will remember!
