Amber colour rum, in a short stocky clear bottle with the usual signature raffia wrap. Excellent mix of flavours with a slight burn on the throat.
Sipping: a bit watery, sweet (not overly though), salty saramel, maybe some coconut, not that much of a kick, smooth, not much of aftertaste. A bit nicer, approachable Doorly's, but doens't have as much flavour.
Mix: It gets better when mixed, it is a pleasant rum, but nothing remarkable in my opinion. If you like strong rums, I would pick OFTD instead. If you like fruits, Chairman Reserve or Appleton, woody: Flor De Cana 12, wine: El Dorado 12. Plenty of better choices unless you enjoy superb smooth rum. I find Doorly's 5 to be in that style and a little bit more interesting.
Notes: Salty caramel
Wood: almost none
Fruits: none
Sweet: medium
Kick: low
Salty: high
Flavour: low
Aftertaste: short
Wine:
Funk: none
For the price, you can’t go wrong! It’s cheaper than most and taste great!
Great rum for the price. Barbados rums are my go to and this is one of the top ones.
Lovely smell and then a banana, buttery finish. For its price, a real steal.
This is not a bad rum by any means. It just doesn’t call to me so it really sits on the shelf. Maybe I’ll get to drinking it eventually.
I've been looking for a good rum that comes close to tasting like the one my friend found in Cuba. He later went to Mexico to buy it because it's not sold in the US. Anyhow this rum smells like butter scotch candy. I like that it doesn't have a vanilla flavor as I am not a big fan of those. It does taste like caramel. It also has a spice flavor I can't describe. It could be oak but I'm not sure. For 25 bucks nothing beats this.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
