Around 7 years ago my wife came home with bottle of this for me to try. What a surprise. A 5 yr rum that drinks like 7 or 10 year rum Inexpensive at $16.00 And with a cube, very smooth. its not my favorite, Pyrat is, but a bottle stays around for backup or when I just want to enjoy something else.
Sometimes its good sometimes don't. Like everyting else, if you drink without high expectations it can be great , in my opinion its for that price you cannot ask for much more.
Cold shot glass , with coffe with a small cohiba after a great dinner in a summer nigth , it goes from a poor 6 to a big 8 .
For the same price as Doorly's 5y, Plantation Barbados 5y sports similar smell, but this the last positive news here. The taste is much more shallow than Doorlys, of course sweetened as is the Plantation tradition, which in case of Bajan rum which gets some natural fruity sweet notes without any additives seems kind of superfluous to me. Besides being shallow, the taste profile is also significantly less smooth than Doorly's. The taste has certain trait which I observe in Mount Gay rums (Black Barrell, XO), it is something like hoppy bitterness, like and aftertaste of a good Czech beer, but very subtle, this trait is not good nor bad, but just this kind of thing that popped up in my mind. This Plantation is not entirely bad, but Doorlys just beats it in every aspect. Add a star or two if you like sweetened rums.
Straight down the middle Barbados-style rum that is perfect for cocktails. Fair price and easy to find.
I don't think the XO is really much better.
Like all Plantation offerings very solid. Ligjt color,, Slightly sweet taste initially but quickly settling in nicely. Not much nose in my opinion, smooth going down and no back end. Nice lingering taste
Good on the rocks with orange twist or mixed in a pina colada. Tasty and versatile.
un rhum pas trop chère et qui a tout de même du caractère.
A classical slightly aged rum with the cognac cask finish rounding the angles. Nice sip but lacks complexity so quickly boring.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A very different take on a Barbados rum, enough there to be a Barbados rum, but compared to doorlys, the real McCoy or mount gay black barrel it has a unique flavour. Worth a try
