Myers's Original Dark rum

Myers's Original Dark

Jamaica | Dark | 40% ABV

Myer’s Original Dark Rum is a blend of up to nine different rums of various ages, all of which are distilled using Jamaica's typical production method: pot-stills. The Original Dark Rum is slightly unique in Jamaica however, because some of the molasses used earlier in the process is added back in after distillation.

Myers rum has been produced since 1879 and named after its founder, Fred Myers.

Tasted neat, not horrible. It's way better mixed. I tried it in Coke, so much better.

Great rum for mixing! Doesn't hold up as a stand alone sipper

I bought 2 bottles of this just out of curiosity. Sweet aroma but the first impression is not so great - current rating 5.7. It is giving some artificial like, bitter aftertaste. It probably will end in my Sunday breakfast tea to juice it up a little. Good price/performance anyway.
BTW, decent embossed bottle, labels with granular surface. I think it is nice presentation.

EDIT: 4 -> 5, based on my latest experience with Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof.

I like the form of the bottle and I also like the taste in mixed drinks. I did not like drinking it neat in particular. I haven't tried it with ice. Alcohol quality must be ok too.

Everyone has their favorite between this and Gosling's, and I prefer Gosling's. Gosling's isn't quite as harsh or funky.

A real surprise and a gem of a find. I bought this on the way to check out because it was on sale. A complex nose of banana, vanilla, molasses, sugars. The taste is almost exactly like the smell, which is unusual in my experience, but welcome. Strong banana flavours with an undertone of caramel and molasses. Yes!

Add a teaspoon of water and watch the flavours explode. This would work well as a mixing rum, but it is wonderful as a sipper.

It feels close to Appleton Estate in terms of complexity and flavour. Appleton is perhaps the more rounded and refined relative and this, the more characterful and brash cousin. A nice contrast, I think.

This is a very underrated rum overall (and on this forum). Give it a try at least once and then decide.

Bad on almost every aspect. It smells of dust and musty places. The quality of the alcohol is questionable.

Medicinal, I actually prefer Nyquil.I gave it a 4 out of respect for my dearly departed father, who loved it.

I always say on my comments that I am no expert and have little experience with Rum. I can though say if I like something and do I like this, for me there is nothing that particularly stands out. Its slightly more than I pay for the supermarket but I'd still consider it reasonable value (although I'd rather buy a 1 litre bottle of Asda dark rum as Myers do not appeal to me any more than Asda's own brand.
