Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Riktigt god smak som fΓΆrdelar sig fint i munnen. Inte fΓΆr sΓΆt.
I always have a bottle of XO in my cabinet. Smooth and delicious. This is the rum that opened my eyes to the wonderful world of rum (bye bye Captain Morgan; hello rum with cork).
This is where my journey with aged rum began. Up to that point I was a Navy rum man as I was in the Royal Navy at the time.
A trip to the Mount Gay distillery on Barbados changed that. I experienced the blending pride shown by the chief blender to produce this aged masterpiece and then tasted it. Maybe it was the place or the time, but everytime I now sip this I am transported back to a place where real rum lives.
I highly recommend this rum. Smoothe and yet there is a slight oaky taste. Good sipping rhum and one which i have in my cabinet. A great gift idea for people who appreciate fine tasting rhums.
I had to revisit this to do it justice.
From one of the oldest rum houses it is their low end sipping rum, blended with an ill defined age.
Typical Bajan it is unsweetened, more like a brandy, than some of the South American molasses rums.
Nose: Full, with toffee, raisins and caramel.
Mouth: Sharp with 43% alcohol muscling forward , displacing the dried fruit.
Throat: sustained burn, aroma fading fast.
It's clearly a chip off the old 1703 block, not as refined but a damn sight cheaper.
It's good, but does not stand up to a Foursquare Port Cask or a 5-year St. Nicholas Abbey.
Good Rum, vary smooth another good one to keep on hand!
This rum is nice moreless, but if I did not want sweet taste, I would buy whiskey directly, this tastes somehow in between whiskey and rum.
Good experience but will not buy again.
A great all around rum that's perfect for sipping or as a top shelf addition to cocktails. Smooth and balanced.

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

My first MG rum and definitely not last. The taste surprised me, because I expected something sweeter and not that bitter. I really like it and recommend.
