Had it on the rocks with juice of half a lime. I like the blonde better. This is OK, seems to have some added flavors, almost a mocha or carob taste. Not bad, not great.
This is a great Rum for a great price. Has a really sweet nose, notes of caramel and brown sugar. Very good sipping rum. Has a nice mouth feel, and finish. Just enough bite to know you're still drinking alcohol.
Nice rum, too bad the bottle is empty. Have to go to Florida to get me another bottle
Sweet sipping rum that is easy to drink multiple when on the rocks. A lot of vanilla and caramel in this aged rum. I have found this to be a comparable sipper to the Flor De Cana 12 year at a slightly cheaper price point.
Nice tasting rum with somewhat of a bite. You can tell it has a higher alcohol rating. The bottle design is a gem.
Tried this rum in Key West and I can say that the version they serve is better than what you get at your liquor store. The regular market Pilar is produced for them in Jamaica I think, and is not nearly as good as the small batch you can get in KW.
The Hemingway endorsement and the hokey packaging put me off at first, but this is my favorite rum so far, or perhaps tied with Diplomatico Reserva. It's got the vanilla and the caramel but with a smack of black pepper that's just wonderful.
I don't usually comment on packaging, but the little chain for the cap is just so cheesy and makes it difficult to open and close. Break it off immediately.
In my opinion, this compares well to the Zacapa XO at less than half the price. Both are on the sweeter side. This is nice with a little ice.
Sweet a little spicy, yet with slightly bitter coffee notes.
"There is a fair amount of orange peel or marmalade like bitterness, especially on the finish and the aftertaste. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This was a birthday present. I have since bought another as I enjoy sipping with an ice cube and a lime squeeze. Tiny bit smokey but mostly molasses and hint of vanilla finish. As my go-to is now other stronger rums, I still turn to this for an easier sipper. The bottle is REALLY amazing though! Looks great on a shelf and an excellent gift for a rum lover - seriously impressive looking! That metal cap on a chain... I feel manly pouring that business into a rocks glass.
