Kraken Black Spiced

Good priced rum at around £23, easy to drink on its own with it being incredibly smooth, just as good on the rocks. Cool looking very old style bottle that makes you laugh like a pirate when pouring it, especially if you've already had a few.

I’m not a fan of fad Rums and don’t understand why Kraken is so popular. I’ll drink it as a mixer but never neat . Kraken is what it is a popular rum with no character yet it is okay when mixed with Coca Cola. I wouldn’t go out of my way for this Rum but if it’s available I’ll drink it over Bacardi or Brugal . Then again I’d drink gasoline over Bacardi . The Kraken bottle is awesome , I’ll give them that.

I like this after a few too many Stella’s. Not too heavy and goes down well with ginger ale as a mixer.

First off, I am not a fan of spiced rums. Having seen large quantities of this stuff on the grocery shelves for years also put me off from trying it. Then one day, I was looking for a rum between the standard 80 proof and overproof. I actually picked up a bottle to read the back of the label. As soon as I saw that it came from the northern part of the USA, I put it back on the shelf. Then I found out that it is very dark rum from Trinidad aged only 1-2 years with added spices. In other words, rot gut rum with spices was then shipped to the USA for distribution. I finally gave in and bought my only bottle about a month ago.

It is similar to the black Navy standard rums like Goslings Black Seal and Pussers, and I happen to hate both of them. I only drank this stuff on the rocks and was not impressed with it at all. But someone should have told me, "Hey stupid! Spiced rums with kicks are only to be mixed.". The next day, it always did a number on my system, which proves to me that it is rot gut in disguise. Eventually, that bottle was gone with me swearing never again.

I finally went to their website to learn more about it. There are lots of brilliant and hilarious videos about the Kraken sea monster that inspired it, as well as an equally brilliant and hilarious test to join their League Of Darkness. There are even giant hand painted murals in NYC and Chicago. Talk about a great marketing campaign. But leave it to me to find about anything many years later after becoming a hit. I plead guilty to being held down by a Kraken far below the surface and feeding it my own supply of rum to spare it from killing me.

I only use it for mixed drinks and prefer it over captain Morgan. Just don’t go overboard with it.

Its a rum not worthy to spend your money. Unless you want som cheap alcohol to your afternoon teeth brushing

First time when i've tasted the rum, i've liked it a lot. But i was probably drunk. Now i can can drink this rum only with coke :(.

The Kraken is a nice spiced dark rum. It makes for a delicious Dark and Stormy, but as a sipping rum, it leaves a bit to be desired but is not terrible. I'm not sure that it was meant to be a high-end rum, it is good for what it is good for, let's not pretend that it is on a par with Zacapa or Kirk and Sweeney.
