Nice cheap rum for everyday. It is perfect match for cocktails
This is a Smooth sipping rum but I wish it had more flavor.
EN: it is the turn of diplomatico mantuano. I had quite high expectations from it but now I realize that I asked it too much, it was hard to live up to those standards i was hoping for.
diplomatico grand reserva is a rum much too trumpeted .. not worth so much noise .. although it has that strange depth I understand now that it came only from the huge amount of added sugar ..
returning to mantuano, I think it has much less sugar but it's still a lot, from here it draws its pluses and minuses .. it loses its complexity because it seems that it was from the aded sugar, it is more pleasant than exclusiva, the taste is the same ( I will not spell it again , you find the description at the diplomatico reserva excusiva description) but it clearly doesn't feel syrupy anymore, which I consider to be a plus. a decent rum ..
I was saying about the reserve that it would have been interesting to have been older and to have a more pronounced taste of wood, I think that it was even more recommended to age is more , if they manage to reduce the sugar as close to zero as possible and be a little older to influence the taste then it would be a really interesting rum, until then it remains only at the decent stage with the mention that I prefer it instead of the older brother exclusive reserve ..
in conclusion if you want a sweet rum I think the only one I could recommend from what I've tried so far is el dorado 12, for the rest I would not give the money
($50CAD in SK) Super dark color, deep brown. Smells quite a bit like wine, some lighter floral notes and just a hint of spice. Tastes of dried fruits, spices and a strong bit of cola. Quite enjoyable, wish it was cheaper.
Note: I couldn't find any Diplomatico in Alberta for the last 2 years. Our friendly neighbours in Saskatchewan had both the Mantuano & Reserva Exclusiva, albeit for more than I would've liked to pay.
Heavy vanilla initially on the nose. The thing that hurts this rum is there is a very strong burst of alcohol and burn at the back of your throat at the finish. This particular rum does not have a very smooth finish. It came very strongly recommended but I was not very impressed. My not being impressed may also have something to do with the fact that I tasted this rum immediately after tasting the spectacular Centenario 30 year!!
in my opinion this one is much better than the reserva. dryer, brighter and more flavour (and cheaper, look at that!)
Sweet, simple, unambitious. An indifferent and forgettable product.
It’s sweet with scents of brazil nuts and some butteryness like shortbread. .
"Overall it is a sweet rum. There is a little spice on the palate and a tiny slither of oak. The finish has a little coffee and a touch of caramel. It is smooth and very easy to drink."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

pros: the price, the balance
cons: somehow strong alcohol to the nose, not much complexity, poor to average finish
For me is better than the reserva exclusiva due to the price and the less sweetness.
An easy drink that will not dissapoint you, but probably will not be your standard choice at the price range. However worths a try, especially if you think that the r.e. is overrater or overpriced.
