very bold taste just as most jamaican rums. very enjoyable pure or as a mixer.
It deserve better rating than here. It is typical Jamaican rum with no added sugar so it is very dry. On the nose its suprisingly sweet with flavours of banana, caramel and wood. Taste is very dry with hints of vanilla, tropical fruit and oak. Really strong bourbon finish. It is better to leave it couple of minutes in glass.
I've read reviews below, bought in duty free zone and got excatly what I've expected. Intense Jamaican rum, not a great one, but interesting enough to consider it regular in my cabinet.
Although nose is quite mild, no ethanol attack, the taste is firm and strong, with some perceptible grassy notes. It's on the one hand not caramel or sweet, but on the other not to dry. And this makes is it an ideal Jamaican Rum both for sipping and Cuba Libre.
I bought it for 35 euro / 700ml at Vienna airport which turned out to be a great price, as my local physical and online stores have significantly higher price. I think 35-40 is a reasonable price, but wouldn't buy it for more than 45-50 euro.
These Navy Island rums started to appear on shelves within the last six months or so. I personally prefer this one over their Navy Strength, since the taste is the same, but without the high ABV%. This one is only $27 US, whereas the Navy Strength one is $48 US. Add the right amount of water to that one and you get this one. Sorry for the delayed review.
Lite spritig, lite söt i smaken. En helt okej jamaicansk rom.
Bought this on a whim and very happy with price to flavor ratios. Immediately know it’s Jamaican mild Hogo pot still funk in a very good way. Good island fruit and spice flavors nothing to complain about. Added a small cube mellows it out a bit nice cinnamon and ripe banana hues. Overall good bottle for the collection.
If you love natural Jamaica rums, go for it. I think it's cheap and good for the money.
There are not that much esters and it could be more complex.
It's not watery but it should have more fruit aromas in my opinion.
Maybe the dilution to 40% was not a good decision.
If you have more budged, go for Hampden Estate 8y Jamaica rum.
Smell: citrus, some ester, fermented fruits, some vanilla, oak

Spice: 3/5
Fruit: 3.5/5

Value (30€): 2.5/5
Looking to try something different I thought I would buy a bottle of Navy Island XO Reserve rum from local liquor store. In spite of the unflattering reviews on this rum I realized that I ought to find out for myself as I have come across bad reviews in the past for rums that I find delicious. The deciding factor in purchasing this rum was that everybody agreed that it was a dry rum and being from Jamaica it contains no added sugar.
I let the rum sit in my glass for 15 minutes before evaluating it. The nose reminded me of a blend of Appleton 12 yr rum and Pusser British Navy rum. First sip confirmed that it is similar to a lighter version of Appleton 12 yr rum and I liked it right away.
Nice find.

The Navy Island Jamaican Rum XO is a blend of pot and column still rums from Worthy Park, Hampden and Moneymusk.
The rum is named after Navy Island, a small tropical island near the coast of Jamaica once owned by Errol Flynn.
It’s matured in ex bourbon casks and bottled at just 40% ABV.
The aromas is fruity, spicy and creamy.
In mouth and palate there’s some sweetness along with some coffee and tobacco together with the aromas coming back.
