Just a generic (under) average rum with beautiful packing for its price level. I can mostly smell alcohol there and nothing more, which is really boring. The taste decent at best but totally forgettable. It could be sweeter, too. Total lack of charisma.

Very sweet molasses aroma, a little hot at the front but fades fast. Vanilla and banana on the back end. Very good sipper. I will definitely try the 18 next.

Eye: soft backlit orange
Nose: apple
Mouth: soft pear entrance. Clean and neat. Smoked whiskey and cinnamon finale.
One of the best sugarless rhums

Flor de Cana brand rums are considered to be one of the best rums in Latin American countries, as evidenced by a number of international awards.

With so many other delicious rums out there why waste time? Give me a Zaya, or even a plantation double dark over this any day. Not horrible, but not something I’d spend my money on.

I was expecting so much more from this one. Being at the same price range with Zacapa 23 over here, I was hoping to get a similar experience, but unfortunately I found it bland with the alcohol sting prevailing over the flavours. Not for me.

I was curious to try this as I saw some interesting reviews and feedback on it. And I'm always curious when something seems to get extreme feedback, people either love it or hate it. I fall in the middle. Its alright, but really didn't do anything for me.

The bottle is okay, but not a fan of the big old-timey flask/medicine bottle look. I think its only made that way so it takes up space and stands out more in a bar (as it does in mine which annoys me to no end! lol).

I was not impressed with the nose, it was really strong in alcohol and an almost burning plastic funk. I could barely detect the caramel, nut and oak hidden under all that.

Thankfully the taste was better than the smell. I got subtle notes of caramel, oak, vanilla and a little bit of honey and fruit. It has a decent mouthfeel and a good solid burn. But it felt more like I was drinking a bourbon than a rum. The aftertaste lingers a tiny bit, then gets replaced by the warm burn, which sticks around. There is a bit of sweetness that sticks around on the tongue though, which I found surprising based on the nose and initial taste.

This is probably best as a mixer, but if you like bourbon, sipping on this may be more your thing. I wasn't impressed and I wasn't repulsed. Even though the nose was not good at all, I liked the lasting burn and mild sweetness on the tongue. Other than that, I wouldn't buy this again. Plus then I will have more space for other (hopefully better) bottles.

First things first: this is NOT a 12 year old rum as of this writing (April 2021). The “12” is a “flavour profile” and not an honest age statement. That’s misleading in my opinion. This rum is a bit ethanol-forward. There's a bit of nailpolish remover on the nose. There’s a bit of oak, vanilla, brown sugar and nuttiness but the ethanol can be distracting. I've experienced a high degree of batch variation with this rum. It’s quite light on the palate and sharp for something that’s only bottled at 40% abv. I think this works best in cocktails or highballs.

with good value, but rather average at the end of the day. I like that they don't add sugar.

Was expecting a bit more from this one. Probably because of the good reviews, but I gave to say it did not meet my expectations.
Very strong oaky "alcoholy" taste that doesn't leave a lasting aftertaste. Did not enjoy sipping it. It was great and easy going as a mixer though.
I would go for 6.5 if I had the choice
