Tones of peppermint and acetone. On the high end of the low ends, but nothing to tell your friends about.
Have soft spot for Flor de Caña so I am probably overrating this rum but I really like it. It’s definitely better for mixing than drinking neat but still good value for money esp. if you can get it on sale.
I'm writing this from memory. Didn't really enjoy it, I remember bit being lightly funky with a hint of molasses, but had a bitter tanin flavour. It took forever for me to drink this stuff as I wasnt keen, ended up mixing it away. I'd be interested in trying the more premium versions maybe the 12 year. But I'm apprehensive.
You might like it, but not for me
I do not perceive too many flavours, jist clean and elegant rum. I mean it in a very positive sense. A rum for everybody in my opinion.
This is where the FdC rums begin their polishing for the palate, the 5 year gets a good dose of benefits from aging in the barrel a year more than their filtered lights. That classic Spanish style flavor is present, a touch sweet and woody, and the body is significantly more substantial as a result. It’s still in that in between zone, where it’s better mixed than sipped, but it fully qualifies for cocktails requiring an aged Spanish rum that won’t break the bank. With a little ice, it’s an ok sipper, but the 7 year feels like the real sweet spot, neat or on the rocks.
Another always on offer at Tescos.
Good for the price if you're not a rum snob like me but likes a nice rum.
This rum was pleasant to mix with cola or ginger beer but I didn't enjoy drinking it on its own. I would buy it again to mix with but would look for a different rum to enjoy straight from the bottle.
This didn't work as a sipper but is a fine rum as a mixer. I recommend, as some others have, - Fever Tree Ginger Beer. Job done.
Strong heavy alcohol notes are very much present.
"It’s also pretty rough going down and very very spicy on the finish."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Bought on discount at Asda supermarket at £15 so thought it was worth a try and got to say compared to captain Morgan and lambs rum etc its a winner with a mixer, being not as sweet and a more subtle flavour its even just passable neat for me.
