El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.
The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

El Dorado makes great rum. Full off flavor, full of aroma. The longer I let this 15 year sit in the glass, the more this lovely buttery aroma with fruit and wood emerges that makes it hard for me to keep my nose out of the glass. I have found myself pouring out more of this than I probably should have on more than one occasion. I do however prefer the more heavy wood flavors and aromas of the El Dorado 12 year which works out well since it is almost half the price. They are both lovely rums and I don't think you could go wrong either way.
Je suis un fan des rhum El Dorado. Plus on monte en âge plus ils sont bon. Le 15 est à sa place entre le 12 et le 21.
...mh...gee, what is that awful smell...unfortunately it did not go away even after letting it breathe got about half an hour and longer...
Luckily it did taste better than it smelled...but compared to the 12 year old it still looses.
One big surprise was that even though from the same family it was so different...like black and white...
In the same price range I highly recommend the Plantation 20th Anniversary or the Centenario 20!
I will not buy another bottle of this one, rather the 12 year younger brother.
Nose: beyond words !!
Taste: A perfect sugar/sweetness balance (not near as sweet as diplomatico though). The is overall beyond words!!
Aftertaste: insane silky smoothness.
Without doubt, the best rum so far!!
Very moreish. A little sweet but definitely one I’ll buy regularly.
We tasted this one right after a bottle of Cubaney Centenario 25-30 and it still performed great. The drop in smoothness was a bit obvious, but not unpleasant. El Dorado is also more aromatic, considered in a good way. Enjoy responsibly :)
Everything a Demerara should be: irresistibly rich and smooth with dozens of complex subtleties... gonna take me a while to get to know it fully
A bit sweet but, not overpowering. Never to be mixed - only sipped. Leaves an incredible aftertaste of toffee or caramilk but not in a bad way. On the nose this also smells sweet. It's smooth going down and makes for a great sipper. Plenty of reviews already with great descriptions.
Can't go wrong with this one.
Nose has rich Porto, caramel and ginger notes in the background. The flavor is all that plus sweet maple sugar and a long warm finish. Tasted at a restaurant on a business trip and now can’t wait to buy some for my collection.
Full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate...
"El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
Has more oak and chocolate notes.
"It is initially very sweet, apples, bananas and rum soaked raisins but there are also some bittersweet plum like notes. The finish is spicy and fruity and long lasting."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is a really good rum but different than I was expecting. It has a distinct burn to it which differentiates from other rums. It is not unpleasant - just different. Very complex with deep flavors. Could take a lot of tasting notes. A unique experience for sure.
