El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year

JA
had this rum recently

Guyana | Aged | 43% ABV

El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

I was very excited to try this. I had heard a lot of people talk about it and thought that it had to be special. Now I've had a taste and it was very good, no doubt, but not as amazing as I thought it would be. That is probably my fault for building it up so much in my mind but do not get me wrong, I still think it's fantastic!

I did hear somewhere that rum needs to breath for one minute for every year it has been aged, unfortunately I heard about this after I initially tried it, so i tested it again and waited for 15 minutes and the difference was actually noticeable. I did feel more of the coffee flavor after waiting and the "one minute per year waiting rule" is definitely something I would recommend doing!

It was on the smokey side, you can really taste that it has been aged in bourbon casks and, I think, that you can taste the percentage (43%). I did very much enjoy it and it will be one I'll be sharing with anyone who wants to try fine rum!

Well balanced, a lot of taste, sweet but not so much. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it.

Вкуснейший ром, сбалансированный, с великолепным ароматом. Пока не попробовал Dimlomatico Reserva Exclusiva, этот буден для меня ромом номер 1.

Top notch, prefer it to the 21yr old, buy this and just like others have said/stated use as the benchmark of excellence..

Finally got to try this rum. Very balanced. No one flavor sticks out. Not a smooth as I was expecting.

Pour la différence de prix, du même producteur, je préfère le 12 ans.

Less sweet than the 12 years. More flavor and more refined rum.

This rum has an nice oak taste. I suppose some wiskey drinkers would like this one. It has a complicated nose and full taste. Nice sipping rum.

This is good stuff. if you like the 12 year old, you are almost certain to appreciate this - and vice versa. Which is better...hmm...well, it really does depend on your tatse buds. They are probably roughly equally as good, but I presonally prefer the 12 year old. This has a sort of background bourbon or cognac element to it, which is interesting but at the expense of the overwhelming rummyness of the 12 year old. The 12 year old, for me is one of the rummyest of rums - by that I mean it tastes almost exactly what I expect good rum to be in my mind's eye. This one is not hugely different, but it gains some flavours whilst loosing the edge in the others. It has all the nose of the 12 year old plus a little furniture polish and extra oak.
I like the big boldness of the 12, the in-your-face rum kick, slight burn on swallow and back of the mouth heat after swallowing it. This one loses half of that, but gains a slight amount of complexity and a bit of oak - I'm not sure it's worth it and I don't want to pay an extra £5 for something that I don't think improves on the 12.
Nevertheless, there's no doubt that this is very fine - and I would not argue with those who do prefer it to the 12 year old - I think it would be a roughly 50-50 call amongst rum drinkers.

This is a very nice rum but on the finish reminds me of a whiskey .For someone who enjoys whiskey you will probably like this.I prefer the 12.
