El Dorado Special Reserve 15-Year rum is crafted from 15 to 25 year old rums that are then blended and married together in bourbon oak casks. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still.
The bottle of El Dorado Special Reserve 15-year was inspired by the the old hand-blown flasks used by sugar planters on the banks of the Demerara river.

dryer than the 12, but quafable overall. good as an after dinner drink.
Very tasty rum for that money. I smell a little bit of pineapple with coconut. Nice and long finish.
This is a hard review for me.
On the one hand I liked the flavor of this rum. It was truly in line with the Cuban Rums I so enjoy. However, the thickness of this rum on the palette was off putting to me.
I found myself for the first time thinking "this would be nice as a dessert topping on vanilla ice cream"....yikes.
The 12 year old El Dorado is much nicer as a rum to my tastes.
N- Sandalwood, orange candy nuance on grassy edge to keep it quite fresh with occasional burst of spices. Tea sweet, caramel syrup coated walnuts, liqueur soaked dried fruits, moist toast with strawberry jam, so the wave of sweetness are high, but well balance out with the heavy sweet oak phenol with hint of smokes. Breath well and evolving. (87/21)
P- Rich coat of dried fruits, then comes sourish citrus candy, some herbs and sweet bitter nuts. (86/20)
F- Medium long, sweet spices, star anise, semi dry and clean. (86/20)
B/B- 87/21

Many people have started their journey with El Dorado, so I have heard a lot about it from friends starting out in the world of rum without being able to talk with them about it, since I have never tried it. That needed to change, so I bought a bottle...
Nose: Brown Sugar, Vanilla and a small whiff of orange peel/citrus to round it off
Taste: Lots of flavour led by oak, vanilla and molasses that fizzles out to soon
Overall: This is a rum that is liked by almost everyone, who is starting out in the world of rum, but people tend to look down on it because of the added sugar. I would prefer my rum without the added sugar, but sometimes I just want to pig out and this rum is one of the better to pour in the glass, when I am in that mood.
I drank this rum for the 1st time by mistake. I was in a visit and asked if I would like a glass of rum - when I smelled and tasted it, I was amazed. I asked what type of rum is and... now I know what rum I will buy next. It is excellent!
Enjoy with hot water, rum and a little bit of honey or just plain. One of my favourite rums
Really good rum with a lot of flavor. Totaly worth buying.
Denna är lite bättre än 12:an mindre sötman och bättre balans. Båda är supergoda och rekommenderas i alla lägen, prisvärda där eg 12:an vinner precis. Men inget dåligt med denna.
Full nose packed with dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate...

Has more oak and chocolate notes.
"It is initially very sweet, apples, bananas and rum soaked raisins but there are also some bittersweet plum like notes. The finish is spicy and fruity and long lasting."

This is a dark, slightly sweetened rum, which makes me quite sceptical although it is probably not enough sweetness for some. Visibly coloured, a bit viscous in the glass.
Nose: Figs, toffee, toasted pineapple and a hint of oak.
The mouthfeel confirms the impression of viscosity, very pleasant taste with a good balance between dried fruits and the typical molasses and caramel you would expect from sweetened spirits, but not overwhelmingly sweet as mentioned.
The aftertaste is long and also very pleasant but it does not really add new aromas to the drinking experience. The last two points from me are due to the low price, this is a very good starting point for those beginning to explore high end rums. A good blend of what seems to be quite different styles. Although it is a long time since I had access to really expensive rums I would say this an excellent starting point that allows you to get an idea of what top shelf rum can taste like.
