El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

Less sweet than the 15 year old, oaky, spicy, peppery.
The initial flavour is rich and strong, this soon mellows into a pleasant Smokey oak.
Rich dried fruits on the nose and palate. Figs, dates and dried apricots. Truly a rum to savour on the special occasions.
Tasted it side by side with the 12 year.
Nose brings dark chocolate cookie. Bold coffee with fruit cake.
Definitely has more oak and a darker toffee taste. Not as sweet as the 12 but a bit more complex in age.
Tastes of aged oak banana walnut bread cinnamon spice and fruit cake.
A Classic
I had a bottle of this rum about a year ago and I must say it was very very good.
The price point is about right, the bottle a little bit different (and interest is always a bonus) and that taste very good.
But in saying that, I was also contrasting it at the time with other rums like Appleton's Estate Joy, with Ron Zacapa XO (both of which will seduce you) and this rum while it punches well above its weight, is not a sipper for non sippers and people that appreciate a good spiced or naval rum who don't just drink rum mixed with coke or in shot glasses will get it and enjoy it a lot more I think.....
I gave this to a few of my friends and while it was clearly a premium rum, I think it may have been a touch on the spicer side for them compared to the seductive vixen that is Ron Zacapa XO they were sipping on earlier. But don't worry about what others think in this sense, cause its genuinely good quality respectable top shelf rum. This seems like the kinda rum you would bust out with your Dad on Christmas eve or something, its got really nice spice to it but its a smooth little operator too and you won't want to squander it.
Well worth buying a bottle at least once, I think in terms of value, start lower with El Dorado and work your way up is the tip I keep hearing from a lot of people. A lotta people recommend the 12 and 15. I was not disappointed with the 21 and would buy again as long as the price was right.
I will give it a 9 on the basis that I think a lot of people don't get that it is what it wants to be (a smooth as f#%k spiced rum and not a Ron Zacapa or Appleton's Estate).
We loved this, what little we had. We got a dram of it (can't really afford much more than that), and tasted it alongside the 5, 12 and 15 year old expressions. The 15 year old was really the sweet spot of flavor... the 21 lost some of the more interesting notes, but retained just a bit of the dried fruit; I likened it more to prune than sour cherry, but either way, it has that tiny bit of pucker still left, and almost all of the sugar gone. Going from the 5 to the 21 was shocking, but from 12 to 15 to 21 you can definitely see the progression. For our money, we'll keep the 12 in stock with the 15 as a special buy, but this one is probably not going to be on our shelf unless we hit the numbers.
'spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar'
"El Dorado 21-Year rum review by The Ultimate RumGuide"
There is an extra layer of oak in the profile.
"Notes of oak and a slight spiciness also comes through. The rum is very smooth and easy drinking but complex enough to ensure you savour each sip of the drink. The finish is long lasting."

I was very excited to try it since I really love the 15 - year. As much as it is a great Rum, I have to say that I am disappointed I expected something better for the price. I am not a big fan of the acidy level, too high for me. Also the length comes short and seems to binary in my opinion for this price range.
