El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

Nez : Mélasse, caramel et fruits rôtis.
Bouche : Puissance et rondeur, intensité et finesse. Boisé, fumé et caramel.
Finale : Longue avec un côté salé.
The nose is more reserved that I expected but it still a very nice integration of wood and spice. The palate has sweetness but not as much some reviews suggest, imo. There’s a lovely and harmonious integration of wood, molasses, and spice on the palate. The finish reminds me of molasses cookies. I do agree with others that the ED 15 year old seems to outshine this older expression. The 15 is more “in your face” in both the nose and palate. The same conclusion can be reached when tasting various single malt whiskies too - older isn’t always better for a given distillery. That being said, this is a very fine, serious sipping rum that you can’t go wrong serving to others.
I expected to be blown away by this after loving the 12 and 15 yr however was disappointed. I don't believe it is worth the extra $$. Maybe one day I can afford to sample the 25 yr and compare
I bought this bottle because of the reviews here. Initial impressions. For the price, the packaging is a little cheap. I know that it doesn’t matter, but it does to me. I like my rum shelf to look good. Ah, vanity!
The nose of this rum belies it’s flavor. The smell is a bit harsh, at first but mellows with a bit of rest as most rums do. Notes of oak, chocolate, brown sugar and spice.
I drink most of my rum with a single ice cube, and this one is VERY smooth. Lightly sweet on the tongue, but with an artificial feel to it.
Immediately after sipping brown sugar, honey and spice meet your palate and the aftertaste is that of honey. Overall very pleasant and worthy of a spot on the shelf, despite the cheap bottle.
Update: mouth full of chocolate. All other notes disappear under the cocoa flavor. Needed another drink to get the chocolate flavor out of my mouth.
Update 8/31/20. After a few months on my shelf, this rum has changed dramatically. The aftertaste is like vomit. Nasty AF.
Best consumed quickly because time does not help this rum. I pitched the remainder of the glass.
My wife got me this for our 1st anniversary. Amazing rum, smooth as silk. This on the rocks on a Saturday night by a fire is phenomenal
Eldorado and most Guyana rums are great dark flavorful Dumara style rums. The 21 is a real star, not that I don’t drink 12 & 15 I drink them more than 21. A solid smooth 9 dark and delicious. I reserve for gifts and special occasions and drink 12 & 15 daily
This one is a taste bomb. It's almost overwhelming, so many different tastes, vanilla, molasses, cane sugar, just a tad sweet and caramellish. But there is a lot of oaky tones as well as one can really taste it is a demerara rum. I think it could've been even better with a piece of ice. Great rum!
'spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar'

There is an extra layer of oak in the profile.
"Notes of oak and a slight spiciness also comes through. The rum is very smooth and easy drinking but complex enough to ensure you savour each sip of the drink. The finish is long lasting."

It's not my favourite only because I don't feel emotionally attached to it, but the rum hardly get better than this... I usually only drink rum neat but sometimes this one I like to drink with pineapple juice and ice even though is such a shame to use it as mixer it's even the best in my opinion for pineapple/rum mixing...
