Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV
Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.
The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

Nice vanilla sweet nose. Sweet start into sharp vanilla weak body. Abvish and oaky a bit. Longer semi sweet vanilla end
The rum is a very light pour.
The nose is unimpressive.
The mouth feel is thin.
There is a very distinct alcohol burn and limited flavours.
The rum is smooth.
The after taste is subtle and may actually be better than the taste in the mouth.
Definitely drinkable, however probably better suited as a mixer.
As a mixer it would be contributing very little in flavour profile so it would be used as a base rum or alcohol source. If all you are really using it for is as an alcohol source there are numerous less expensive choices out there.
Lovely smelling notes of toffee and vanilla in this rum. A slight harsh alcoholic burn in the throat of this one. Wouldn't be my go to rum of choice but worth a go if you haven't tried it before.
I've turned a few whiskey drinkers with this who say they don't like rum, if your a single malt fan I urge you to try this, true it's not as smooth as many rums but easily outshines some single malts. It's smooth with a little after burn but not much
, woody with a hint of vanilla a great all rounder mixed or sipped over one piece of ice, you can certainly buy worse at this price
Since first trying this rum in Tobago, I have always been impressed by the silky quality of a glass of 1919.

There is a little “oak and smoke” and a very small scent of fruit.
"The rum is very smooth with notes of oak, cocoa and vanilla. Perhaps a little banana but very subtle."

I'm not sure whether to rate this as a budget sipper or an expensive mixer. Either way, it's pleasant enough but not great value for money.
At almost twice the price of Mount Gay Eclipse, it's not really going to transform your cocktails. Compared to sippers at this price point, Angostura 1919 lacks depth and character.
