I grew up on this stuff & thought it was OK, until I started sampling others.
Definitely only to be consumed with a mixer.
Worked with an Aussie Engineer that said this was what they drank in school and it was not pretty, albeit contrary to stereotype he was not a huge drinker.
Knowing I am a rum fan he brought me a bottle so that I could "truly gauge what bad is". He was correct. I drank the full bottle (not in one sitting) straight up out of respect for the fact that he hauled it from Australia to Canada.
I now proudly say "I survived Bundaberg".
Bundaberg original is without a doubt the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth. The taste, while in your mouth, is not good, but perhaps redeemable. The real kick in the crotch, however, comes soon after you swallow, and a vomit-like aftertaste rushes into your mouth, leaving you wishing you were dead. do yourself a favour and get the cheaper (and far less disgusting) captain morgan's.
First rum I have tried so nothing to base it on !!
Grew up on this rocket fuel, was the starter to many parties. Used to be cheap and nasty now its just nasty ! But it is very popular across AU guess its an acquired taste ;) Still hit it on occasion if I'm desperate because most pubs only stock this rum.
Definitely burns the nose, but accents subtle vanilla notes. Burns the tongue as well haha, but again, simple, sweet notes also very detectable. Tastes like a rum-makers first attempt. Cola knocks down the harshness and overall makes it pretty pleasant.
Worst Rum I have ever tasted tried mixing with ginger beer couldn't get through a couple of sips, tasted like paint thinners with an overpowering chemical taste, I hope this is just a manufacturing problem but this was rubbish, sorry.
Don't get excited with the word UP, it do not mean any enhancement made to the rum, but Under-Proof.
N- Honey, some white chrysanthemum floral tea. Get medicinal but harmless, shallow and light. (81/17)
P- Whispers of chocolate, honey, nutty and molasses. Peaches too, but too soft and none of the flavours are significant enough to claim a footing. (79/16)
F- Medium, surprisingly lasted quite a bit with ginger. Finely woody with touch of dryness. (84/18)
B/B- 79/16. Drowned by dilution for benefit of volume? Not sure. But surely be better at full proof.
Weighted Rate- 67pt
