Funk on the nose which I’m not a fan of funkiness unless it’s jamaican funk (hampden, worthy park). Watery on the taste with middle that finally has a barbados rum taste but then it goes to an agricole funk that’s not my cup of tea. Add +2 if you like agricoles
The nose is buttery and astringent with notes of citrus, kind of like a new brown leather shoe, or a good shoe polish. Not a great recommendation for something I am about to drink, but such is the price of having to describe a smell. The taste introduces itself with a bitter pinch coupled with vanilla and citrus. It never really gets harsh, but the alcohol blooms a bit after a mouth full is swallowed. It is not sweetened artificially, so it keeps its rough almost peppery edge all of the way through a very long finish. The feel and a hint of the flavor linger for minutes. It has body, meaning it is thick when I roll it around my mouth, rather than watery. While the second sip is gentler than the first, there is nothing retiring about this rum, and nothing artificial to make it more gentle. It would be a great finish to a steak dinner, or even fajitas. It does not need to be mixed, and I am not sure it would play nicely with creams or fruit juices. It is also not a real friend of garlic, so a followup for a spaghetti dinner would not be its strong suit either. Because it has a straight forward presentation that is fairly balanced, it is a good strong 7, but the bitter lead keeps it from being an 8. Moreover, it does not have enough breadth of flavors to advance beyond 8. This one will be on my wish list.
Very impressive! Nice on the nose, smooth flavors with almost no burn, smooth finish with nice, mellow notes. This will be one I track down and keep a few on hand.
Can't complain, this is run is pretty decent and not too pricey.
Attractive on the nose. Oily and rich taste. Funky like Jamaica sorts. Does little alcohol kick at aftertaste.
Tasted it together with Smith and Cross. Surpriced, they have the same color and similar taste profiles. S&C is bit more harsh, SB8 is more fruity and less funky.
P. S. Just ordered 2 more bottles - first won't last for long time
Very clean finish. Not too sweet with complex flavors but not overly bold.
Nice Bajan rum when mixed with tonic and a splash of line. Definitely priced right
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Been a while rating new rums, finding it harder and more expensive to rate rums worth drinking.. Stumbled on this checked others rating and decided to give it a try. Produced by Wird distillery which I believe is currently owned by Madison Fernand / Plantation, who originally and might still produce Cockspur rum. This is like an ancient artifact rum the way it was originally produced, no special extra aging just rum in its pure form and it’s very good. Light golden color slight light molasses scent on the nose.Very enjoyable, not too complex just an easy drinking solid rum at a good price. I would consider this a gateway rum to the heavy ester, HOGO rums from Jamaica. Has a little rotten fruit funk but not as much as some of the Jamaican rums.Nice to try something different and good.
