Donβt bother sipping this. Strictly a mixer, but admittedly a good mixer.
strong vanilla and is good on rocks or mixed with cola
Really enjoy the extra oak from the deeply charred barrels and still smooth enough at 43% ABV.
Great to sip neat, on the rocks or in a quality cocktail. I find it makes an excellent Old Fashioned. At ~$30 it is well worth the price.
Refined to the point that it is closer to the taste of whiskey than rum not harsh but clean and smooth but ultimately a little disappointed.
Aroma has hints of wood and brown sugar.
Taste is very much influenced by charred oak barrel with hints of vanilla which is very pleasant.
Finish is smooth and longlasting.
Overal very good rum. I really can't decide if I like more Black barrel or XO :)
Good rum mixes well and packs a punch at 43% can get this for Β£30 or less at the supermarket. Makes a lovely rum and coke and goes well in other cocktails also. The black barrel referring to charging the barrels first i gather
Nice bottle received as a gift. Must blend with coke since thereβs a small after burn.
I really liked this and drank quite a bit while in Barbados. But then I tasted the XO!!!! I would look for this in the pubs but want something better at home
good quality rum, showing nice legs in your glass. Flavour expresses toasted wood, ripe plums, vanilla and smoke. Heavily burnt out barrels are used for the ageing process which explains the smoke flavour of this rum (and probably also its name). Good attack when sipped but still balanced. So taste reveals a dominating spiciness which is added to the flavour described above. Finish is unfortunately not too long. Would get beeter rating with a longer finish. If you have friends that prefer whisky and want to get some entry into the world of rum this black barrel rum might be a good start.
A nice balanced Bajan nose with a little extra spicy kick to it.
"Sipped the Black Barrel certainly gives some of the oaky notes of a bourbon but also makes the mouth water."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Quite strong compared to the higher Mount Gay but also good in price category.
