Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
I love Rum Fire. Truly and deeply. But it is so hard to mix with. That’s why Wray & Nephew will always have a slot in my bar. Brings the funk but plays well with others. And the Wray and Ting is the best cooler in the world.
Ok, I don’t get this rum at all. Great nose but so harsh! Very hard to mix with.
I love mixing different rums in a Mai Tai. It’s fun. But if you want to just use one rum, this is the one. It has a permanent slot in my bar for this reason alone.
If you can only have one, it has to be Probitas. Highly mixable which good rummy notes. Makes for a world class Daiquiri. Can make a Mai Tai in a pinch. Good for a mojito. Essential.
The best agricole. Tamps down on the vegetal notes and replaces it with vanilla and caramel. An expensive but perfect component of a baller Mai Tai.
You know them. Campari. Chartreuse. Ardbeg 10. Even a 1/4 oz will dominate your cocktail (in a good way if mixed correctly). This is the rum entry on that list. Try in an Almost Famous.
My favorite rum, hands down. As funky as Rum Fire but way, way easier to tame in cocktails. My Isle of Haiti is my favorite. 2oz Le Rocher, 3/4 oz lime, 1/2 oz 2:1 honey syrup; 1/4 orgeat.
Bottle no 174 / 236.
You need to let it breathe a long before that turpentine odour settles and you can smell roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, and molasses.
The taste is sweet, gentle, dark chocolate, (wall/hazel-)nuts, and cocoa, with a subtle bit acidic finish. As with every spirit made by the solera method, it's decent but missing character. Like, honestly, I would enjoy this more in some rum-based drink or with cola, where the flavours can cooperate, than sipping it straight.
Taste just a little better than millonario 10 but more expensive
Aged in barrels for 4 years and at 45% alcohol, it is very smooth. The taste has a lot of port, red berries, wood.
A good Spanish style rum: woody, raisins, sweet but not too much, with a long finish.
Exactly! After Abuelo 7, I was looking forward to try this piece. However, it is not what I expected. It is better on all senses but not enough.
Light brown color and sweet woody scent, excellent. The taste seems to be similar to Abuelo 7, little more of sweetness. The price is 50% more so I naturally expected adequate increase of joy. Nope.
If I compare it to Diplomatico, the golden standard according my opinion, where the difference between Mantuano and Reserva Exclusiva is really big, Abuelo 7 and 12 are much less in contrast.
I mean, it is not bad rum at all, but not for 32EUR. Sorry.
8:On the nose it is quite fruity, the first impression we get is a smoky plum with iodine and a bit metallic. Some caramel and roasted notes could be present.
As we air it, it becomes spicy, woody, dry and more tropical with overripe fruits, as almost rotten banana, but still iodized, there is some vanilla, licorice and chocolate. Similar to some Waterford whisky...
8,2:On the palate the first attack is fruity and medicinal, as it stays a bit iodized, with a touch of a copper. There are spicy and woody notes joined, as vanilla, pepper, cinammon and dryness. The first impression is similar to Waterford Cuvée whisky. Molasses and licorice come out later, as the tropical fruits are more intense and some brine might show up. Otherwise round and tasty, especially after some rest with juicy berries.
8,2:The finish is long, woody and dry with more light citrus fruits and tobacco notes, very juicy strawberry.
It's very hot, dry and watery. Very hard to drink straight. Worked well in Painkiller
This is a delicious rum. Full stop. And great value. When mixed, it brings an extra something that stands out. For that reason, I use it more than Appleton 12 or Real McCoy 12 (except for a corn n’ oil). And blends better than El Dorado 12 or 15.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
