Tasted at the Kill Devil Rum Club at Laka Lono on 7/31/24. Pours a golden amber color. Aroma is mildly biscuit and mildly Kraft Caramels. Delicious flavor with huge amounts of honey and brown sugar. Notes of sherry, peach, and a bit of chicory. Mild tingling ending to the palate.
Vůně: Čerstvá, třtinová, koření, pečený ananas, hořké mandle
Chuť: Hladká, trávová, kořenitá, ovocná, jemně nahořklá, štiplavá
Dochuť: Třtinově nasládlá, jemně hořké mandle, koření
Čistý, prostý, mladý, příjemný, ne příliš složitý, ani hořký agricol z Korsiky
Proč ne?
7,4/10
I don't like being the odd ball out since this rum does have a high ratings. But my taste buds are what they are. First off, it does have a very nice aroma! Strong caramel with some nice smokeyness! And when it first enters my mouth it is quite nice...... at first. There is weird after taste that I'm not a fan of. Once it goes down my throat and to the back side of my tongue, it switches to an other flavor that I can only describe as drinking a pool water.
I think I will this one again later down the line in my life. I want to like it!
I am always very cautious when it comes to rums I can find in the commercial liquor stores. However I was pleasantly surprised with this one!
On the Nose: I smell Toffee and Caramel.
Taste: dried fruit mixed with toffee.
Aftertaste: when swallowed it goes down smooth with an after burn like a good cognac.
This rum has that unique identity and character I am looking for in my rums. Recommended!
Clear as water in color, ofcause. Ethanol and sweet notes of banana on the nose, some herbs also. Quite sweet at start, ethanol kicks in too warming the chest. Moderate notes of banana, peach and some spices on palate. I tried with coke too: ethanol taste disapperars totally, nice flavor added to coke. If one likes a bit drier, I would recommend Bacardi Blanco over this, but my liking of sweeter rums, this is quite good. Dare I say, in some sircumstances this goes even as is?
6,8:On the nose the attack of chocolate is very impressive, it is sweet, alcoholic, not dry. Chocolate lovers can get their heaven in this rum.Tones of sweet cocoa powder all around us. Orange peel, vanilla and spice are overwhelmed by the chocolate. Aeration brings out more creamy chocolate, butterscotch, more bitterness and quite strong metallic notes, even meaty?!
7:On the palate, heavy bodied sweet rum, syrupy, full of chocolate attacks our tasting buds with some nice orange peel as counterbalance.Under the chocolate, we find lots of butterscotch sweetness, caramel, sweet spices, hints of vanilla and some oak.
7:The finish is long filled with sweet chocolate, a bit bitter and butterscotch, iodine and is a bit citrusy.
Was gifted this bottle and sat and collected dust for many years. Popped it open to make classic daiquiris, wasn't great, wasn't terrible.
Decent dose of cognac here and comes around nice. I get potpourri, tanned leather and booze. Dark clear copper pour. Spicy booze tinge sticks with you, not much sweetness here.
Look, I like it. There are probably better Caribbean rums out there … I doubt I’ll go back to this; but it’s well worth supporting the beacon of Western success stories in an otherwise chaotic region. Cheers to that!
It’s a great Caribbean rum for a completist to try. Smooth and flavoursome with subtle spice.
Attractive design, best in class. Not quite pure alcohol, which makes the taste more interesting and softened, but aftertaste is rough, stupefies the head for a long time. Suitable for ti punch.
Tasted like an angel passing on your tongie.. This is truly amazing..
WAREMUT does the thing
When I first read review mentioning brine I was like why the hell would I drink this, yet it makes sense, and is amazing even though it's such an alien taste
Beautiful orange amber in the glass.
Fresh and fruity on the nose. Various tropical fruits surprise again and again. Caramel tones, woods and resinous notes sit in the second row. Flowers and grasses slowly wilt in the distance.
Soft and supple on the palate. Fresh fruit breads with a little caramel and vanilla melt gently on the tongue. Wood and tannins are discreetly in the background.
The finish is short and sweet. Wood and caramel disappear first, the fruit flavors remain a little longer.
A thoroughly elegant and very light navy rum, but I miss a certain depth and weight. The 40% doesn't make the whole thing any more navy style. For landlubbers, beginners, light sailors and the common people, certainly not for the king.
For my 9th rum round with the theme Navy Rum.
So I got this rum recently, I tried a tiny bottle of it and thought it was smooth and sweet. It's got heavy vanilla and caramel notes. Not terriblr in a mixed drink or on its own if you enjoy sweet things.
Before we get to the actual evaluation, a few ambiguities need to be clarified, which @Chamarelo has already addressed:
1. the rum from Foursquare was distilled in Barbados (pot & column still) and aged there for 10! (not 5) years in ex-bourbon barrels.
2. the subsequent maturation in PX sherry casks takes place in Germany and lasts at least 3 months. (Strictly speaking, the maturation takes place in former German red wine casks filled with fresh PX sherry from Xerez).
But now to the actual assessment:
-On the nose, the spicy notes of the still relatively young Barbados rum are particularly evident, but the sherry influence can also be detected on the nose: This is expressed through hints of raisins and figs.
-On the tongue, you are surprised by a surprising complexity. The distillate is smooth on the palate and never burns. In the finish, the aftertaste of the PX Cask is quite long and is characterized by a vanilla note.
In conclusion, this rum is the perfect choice to AUTHENTICALLY introduce the rum world to beginners. The sherry influence makes the rum world accessible to beginners.
My criticism is, however, related to ALL sherry maturations: The influence of the sherry gives the impression that the rum has a complexity that the distillate itself does not usually provide. The consumer should always be aware that these sweet, fruity aromas do not come from the rum itself, but from the influence of the sweet wine. If you are aware of this and simply enjoy drinking PX rums, even experienced rum drinkers can have a lot of fun with this rum. For 39.90 euros, a clear recommendation to buy!
Nice looking, stylish bottle. The rum is really dark, must have colors added. Smells like syrup, most likely molasses but no banana aromas that I would have liked. The flavor has a kick to it. It's not only the ABV but the general feel of it. Tastes like burnt sugar and coffee.
This might be the best $15 rum I've had in a long time. Made by Foursquare does not hurt either.
This rum is just an standard in the rum world. You can't make a Painkiller without it. Currently enjoying just sipping on this for Black Tot Day.
ending on a high note with my favorite country - Panama. was not familiar with the brand but enjoying this pour in a big way. Where has it been all my life? Price on the shelf was not that objectionable and perceived as a decent value. Good nose, great taste. Smooooooth and I really enjoyed the finish......of the rum and a great evening of tasting. Cheers to all and to all a good night!
