Strange nose, pineapple on the nose? Sweet pineapple taste, smooth with a slight fruity sweetness on the finish
Burnt caramel nose, taste is of melted caramel, hardly any burn, would be higher if it were a little stronger. No surprising flavors nothing unique, sippable but forgettable. Like a sweeter zacapa with a more pot still type burn
8,5:On the nose, we get lemon polish, the rum is earthy, estery, there is brine, some coconut, honey, caramelized pastries, is spicy with vanilla, sweet spices, roasted cocoa, chocolate, lot s of fermented tropical fruits as pineapple, apricot, overripe banana, guava and vegetal with jasmin.Aeration brings out more roasted and woody notes.
8,7:On the palate, the attack is overwhelmingly covered with overripe tropical fruits, lemon polish and sweet spices. Then comes a bit bitter brine, perhaps anise, again overripe fruits as pineapple, ripe mango, tasty baked banana and pastry, some dryness, coconut, chocolate, some wood later, roasted and medicinal notes with a slight earthy peat.Well, I find all rum spectre very tasty and complex.
8,4:The finish is medium length, with a touch of sour, dry lemon zest, again with brine, coconut, vanilla, cocoa, honey, black tea, camphor, sugar cane, metallic note and some woodiness.
Et blend af rom fra Nicaragua og Venezuela. Destilleret i april 2005 - aftappet juli 2018. 45%. Bottle no. 0534 / 1911.
Its surprises with a vegetable aroma and is no longer worth attention. Even for caipirinha, there are many better bottles.
Aromatic, yet very enjoyable. Not too sweet, not too bold, perfect balance.
I haven't tried much rums in my life but this one is different. Here in Brazil we don't have plenty options but this one is definetly the best one thinking of aged rum (for my budget right now).
Tonight’s Rum, Appleton Estate 8 Double Cask! I’ve seen many posts on the Rum Club Canada page on Facebook and most were positive, so that gives me hope. Appleton Signature V/X has been my house rum for years, and this one from all reports should be a step up. I only have this bottle because BC liquor brought it in during their Specialty Liquor Sale in June. Thanks goes to my friend Al for picking it up for me while I was out of town! Thanks!
My glass is dark, as if the rum was aged for those 8 years in heavily charred oak, or maybe charred normally, but the the double cask is the kicker, making this spirit rich in colour. I like the way it looks. The nose begins with orange peel and acetone or pure alcohol. It’s sweet with hints of pineapple and honey. It doesn’t have a familiar musk Jamaican rums can occasionally have and that may be due to it being aged in select used 18 year single malt scotch barrels. And, according to a post at rumratings.com this might be a Canadian exclusive.
The first hit is easy with minimal burn, but quickly turns to an essence of high alcohol cough syrup. Not a good start. My next sip softens and that high alcohol has faded. A few more sips in the flavours of the rum take over nicely. I get more sweetness of brown sugar, with honey, raisins, allspice, delicate nutmeg growing sip over sip. I find it difficult to pick more distinct flavours, although, online, reports include caramel and vanilla. I get the vanilla, but find it weak; caramel, not so much so. The in the throat, it carries a bit of heat. A regular rum drinker will think nothing of it, but a newby might find it harsh. The finish is slightly dry in keeping with many of the Appleton products, but I don’t mind it as much as some of the other 400+ rums I’ve tasted (neat). Pepper runs a bit long in the finish to start, but never makes you react; it’s just there to be noticed.
All-in-all this is a decent rum and I give it an 8/10. It could have garnered more points if the finish was sweeter and the flavour profile a bit more broad to include toffee and bit more fruit. Best served neat and would be a shame to use it as a mixer. This is number 414 of my 500 rum tasting goal. Cheers and enjoy.
Great nose, fantastic complexity on the palate, extremely long finish to enjoy
I was staring at the rum wall at my loca Hub and pulled out this site for help. I’m a random look at this bottle on the shelf I checked out the ratings and pulled the trigger. Don’t regret it not one second. Do this justice and drink it neat.
Smells a bit funky but the flavour is amazing. One of the best Ive ever tried and likely the most expensive thus far. A satisfying vegetative mint like flavour that has a well rounded port finish, my kind of finish. Peppery but just splendid. Like chocolate chip cookies. Edit: just saw on someone else's rating that its 55%... that explains a lot. Wonderful fun but I'll read the bottle next time.
Smells of butterscotch and light oak. Tastes very smooth with flavour of wood, but lacks a bit of complexity. Very smooth and blended well but just seems to be missing something in my opinion. If you buy one bottle you will be happy, but if you buy two you might get bored.
Plenty to talk about flavour wise, can taste the coffee and vanillla through the spice. Nicest new rum I’ve had for a while.
‘A spiced rum to die for’
Nice mix of flavours, can taste the chilli through the smokiness. Nice old school bottle as well
Bought this just to try it out. My local ABC store are hit and miss on what i can buy, But I live near the border of Virginia and North Carolina, if one state does not carry it in ABC the other just might.
First glass I was not impressed smooth but not a lot of flavor.
However, after going through about half the bottle my opinion has changed. Still not a lot of flavor but most rums get their flavor from the sweetness in them, this is not very sweet so took a few glasses to appreciate it. It has a nice mouth feel very little sweetness, very smooth very
little bite more like an Irish whiskey with a rum flavor.
I would recommend if you see it try it and decide for yourself.
Nevím co si myslet, vůně taková mdlá, trochu chemie, trochu květů a ovoce.
Chuť podstatně výraznější, chemie, ředidlo s trochou ovce.
Chutná mi.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Nose is floral and cinnamon, taste is of eating pine cones with a cinnamon christmas finish, barely any cognac cask finish as stated
