Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Thoughts: An unusually high calibre rum from Captain Morgan known in the UK for making average rum that's added to a mixer. This rum is thoroughly great by itself or on the rocks and has the characteristics of a higher price rum: dark, rich, sweet and tasty. £45 in the UK is a surprise as I would pay more for this and very easy choice for a purchase and I guess that's why we opened our second for this review.
Rating: 8/10
Smell - slight burn, dark caramel, vanilla, lightly spiced, light green banana
Taste - very sweet, rich, chilli spice at the start turning into Christmas cake spice
After Taste - medium finish, slightly spiced with vanilla
In the handy jug. Tasted regularly but rated on 8-31-24. Pours standard dark gold. Aroma mild sweetness but also a grain and straw scent. Nice initial honey sweetness followed by a salty bitter bit. Finished with a medium palate tingle. This is a working rum- neither bad nor great. I keep it on hand for recipes calling for a generic gold rum. IMO, this works better than Bacardi gold and is typically lower in price.
8,8:On the nose, the hype is strong, with intense estery, fermented, overripe tropical fruits and varnish, a bit on roasted steriods. We get banana, pineapple marmelade out of it, on the second wave, we are hit by bourbon notes with yellow fruits and going towards pastry with some burnt sugar and marzipan, vanilla.
When the rum is oxidized, some bacon finds its way out, also cinnamon, ginger, gingerbread. Well rested, candied caramelized fruits, cocoa, prehaps chocolate and prunes make some mark... At the end, there are rubber and some parfum... Complex, but balanced.
9:On the palate, this is a pure perversion.... With estery, sweet, overripe, fermented tropical fruits marmelade(banana, pineapple, papaya) and glue. Quickly it becomes syrupy, dry with some wood, dried fruits, a bit astringent, moving towards roasted side of this rum with honeyed roasted nuts, some vanilla and other spices...Becoming more and more delicious with candied fruits, maple, burnt sugar. After nice resting, we get some twist with salty notes, bacon, tar and little smoke... Another twist is with some lime and quite intense tannins long after our first sip...
8,8:The finish is dry and woody, tanninic, fruity with some citrus, caramelized nuts and honey.
Dark amber in color. Cocoa and coffee beans and cognag-barrel on the nose. Full-bodied whole facefull of experience. Warm wave of ethanol carries sweet notes of dried fruits, tobacco, dusty coffee on palate and nose. Taste lingers really long time with exotic leather, tobacco, burnt caramel. Truly a one of a kind blend indeed.
8:On the nose the light and fruity notes share the stage with a subtly pastry profile. The fruit salad in syrup pairs with tender, fresh almond milk. The coconut is here, as the vanilla comes in.
Aeration brings us a mineral and coppery, roasted notes, varnish with notes of exotic fruit pastes, orange peel, peaches with some acidity of passion fruit or tangy berries. The wood is toasted with nuts, caramel and sweet spices.
7,8:On the palate, this rum is as on the nose, balanced, with a very gourmet american oak, vanilla and toasted coconut. Then come some sweet spices, bourbon touch with a light smoke, caramel and some roastedness. This comes out with a minimal bitterness and dryness.
7,5:The finish is medium length, dry with toasted wood, tangy exotic fruits, a bit metallic.
A nice Admiral Rodney 🙂👍.
Clear mahogany in color. Hardwood and oak from bourbon barrels, dark sugar on the nose. Truly full-bodied, quite sweet at start, nice oak comes along, nutty coffee notes and ethanol taste is nonexistent, only the warmth is left. Taste lingers a desent time and i have nothing bad to say about this.
Thoughts: This punches you in the face in a great way! Full of citrusy tropical fruits from the nose to the tastebuds. Obviousy the high alcohol content adds to it but by itself it is a really tasty drop. This is very much a sipping rum and as with Old J's it's not a traditional one but its a good brand with good results. £45 in the UK, we're glad our friend Dan provided it, and we'd be happy to drink it again.

Smell - sweet tropical fruit, candied orange, spice, vanilla, toffee
Taste - white pepper spice, sugar syrup sweet, demerera sugar, lime, vanilla, cinnamon
After Taste - long finish, subtle sweet and spicy citrus
This is my absolute favorite rum. Drink it Just straight , it smells good and is very smooth and a bit sweet.
Yikes! Tried it straight! Woof! Tried it with a dash of water! Woof!
It’s delicious, I prefer this to the Extreme cask that I have tried. Smoother, perhaps due to some level of dosage? or maybe I’m digging something more column still. I don’t know. I am looking forward to making some tiki cocktails with it tho, FOR SURE!
Full of flavour YES! So dry, yes! Also hot, hot, hot! Even after my tastebuds had become accustomed it was hot, hot, hot and spicy.
I'm not gonna lie, I was starting to get a little underwhelmed with El Dorado. I've tried the 5 year, 12 year, 15 year, and Versaille and while they're all good, none of them really blew me away. Hamilton and Lemon Hart both seemed to do what El Dorado did but better in the same categories. So I was a bit hesitant to buy this, despite all the great things I've heard, but last bottle fomo and a long week convinced me to go for it. Oh my god, this rum is incredible. It has the classic burnt sugar notes of a great demerara rum, but it's so much more complex. The flavors really punch through. It also has a sort of light funkiness on the finish that I don't expect off of a demarara rum that's amazing, and the perfect level of flavor and heat for me. My wife actually rated this a 10, while we did a side by side with the ED 12 and LH 151. Amazing sipping rum. Near perfect.
Interesting and this is in a better class than bacardi, lambs and Captain but far from a sipper. lack of options drew me to this and felt it was much better suited as a mixer. I'm not disappointed that I've now tried it. I am becoming quite fond of HC!
Dark and spicy, probably the darkest rum I have tried. Had this bottle in the cupboard for nearly a year and only opened it tonight, glad I did, may well be my new go to rum every day rum
There is a pear in the nose, honey, fermented fruits, hydrogen sulfide. The taste is pear, honey, chemistry. Heavy feeling in the stomach. The purpose is unclear.

Przyjemne nuty wanilii, nieco owoców, beczki w aromacie. W smaku nieco słodyczy, drewna, beczki, ale też zbyt bardzo palącego alkoholu.
A ‘5-year old Panamanian rum’ from Czechi… make of that what you will. But for €6 a bottle, and it’s better than captain morgan, it can’t be sniffed at
As soon as you pour from the bottle you know this is going to be good. Very dark, a great nose and at 57%, one too savour.
Neat is not for the faint hearted, but perfectly drinkable, in a Dark & Stormy it excels.
Great traditional rum.
Muted smell (for a Jamaican). Mostly, apple, varnish, and that caramel addative El Dorado use
Taste is a bit simple, dare I say it, bland, for a Jamaican. Mostly, I get that caramel additive, with a bit of the pot still Jamaica vibe underneath, all overdriven by the kick from the proof. The finish is apple and a bit of wood, some volatiles, a bit of astringent rubber, and finally just a touch of funk, all smothered under caramel.
It's really interesting to try this, as up to now, El Dorado has been the only rum I have tried with thos caramel overlay. With ED, it's a coating added to the inside of the barrels before filling. Not sure that that's allowed in Jamaica, but the taste on this is just the same. Perhaps it's added afterwards. It does explain the colour though!
Overall, it's pretty palatable neat, and probably does well as a mixer.
It's caramel, astringent volatiles, touch of wood. I think Smith&Cross is a better bet mind. It's fine, but I just can't bring myself to rate it as Tasty, but not quite great.
Thoughts: As expected it's salty and caramel with a little bit of spice. We hoped for a better experience given we enjoy salted caramel in food and drinks but in this case it really missed the spot. We're not too sure that we'd challenge it for anything better than a "meh". £30 is too much for an artificial flavoured rum with little impact. Adding ice simply makes it cold, does nothing to the experience.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
