Hi Paul, why so angry against single-cask drinkers ? ;-) I also prefer single-cask rum, but am not averse to mixing.Β For Tiki drinks (punch) I found a rum book something that very likely every bartender knows: -One of sour -Two of sweet -Three of strong -Four of week -Five drops of bitters and nutmeg spice -Serve well chilled wit lots of ice. Now my mixtures are not that complex, althoug...

When Papa's Pilar rums were first introduced, both got bad reviews from me. I also recommended that they get a new master blender. Well, they either got a new master blender or the first one has learned his or her lesson. This latest release is a good one, albeit for $100 US! The problem with craft rums in the USA is that each company feels compelled to come up with something different from what ...

Stefan, absolutely, some bottlings are really overpriced. But if I now compare the Savanna HERR 57 (64β¬) with the Velier Savanna HERR bottling (62.5%)(75β¬) the price difference is no longer so serious. I look at the prices a little differently. The question is how much is a rum worth to you personally? I prefer to take a Velier Hampden 10-yo C<>H than a Diplomatico Ambassador Selectio. Whe...

For me, rum should come from the Caribbean. I have never tried any Plantation rum and I don't plan to. I am not a woke SJW like Cap Lee, and I know the meaning of the word "plantation" without trying to read something into it. I just don't want French rum, no matter how good it is....

I think your rum should be clear like your other rums. Ther sometimes some "sediments" on the bottle bottom, you see them will by turning around the bottle. It's usually a part of the colour and sugar. After a few hours, the sediments settles and the rum will clear again, if there will not the rum is gone. I had this with a nearly empty bottle of Millonario Aniversario Reserva....

High ester rums are always expensive. They are actually made for blending or more often for the flavor industry. Since a few freaks started drinking this neat the range has grown.Hampden, Long Pond and Worthy Park produce such rums. A long fermentation is necessary (up to three weeks) and so-called dunder and a pot still. I should also mention New Yearmouth, but it's almost impossible to get that...

vomi1011; I should have included El Dorado 8, but since it is always my top ranked rum at my rating of 7 because it is not a sipper, it got left out.Β I always keep these on hand because it is the main ingredient for my Caribbean Cofee (3 TBS ground Central American Arabica Dark Roast to 2.5 cups of spring water). Bourbon barrels are cheap (half the price of virgin oak), this is a by-product of the bourbon production, they can't use them twice. Virgin oak has a strong effect on the distillate, you have to monitor the casks more often and you can't age the rum in these casks for a long time (light distillate up to 6 months, then you must refill into used barrels). Otherwise you get too much wood/vanilla and ...

@PaulWe have different strategies for dealing with spending on rum. I don't use price limits andΒ I take the refinancing approach.
