The rum was aged mainly in barrels that had been previously stored bourbon. A smaller proportion was matured in casks that had been previously stored fortified Madeira wine. Aged for 14 years, with an alcohol content of 48%.
Bottle: Classic Foursquare, but without the the seal with the mill. The label depicts the very rare Ara Kaninda parrot.
Colour: Dark honey
Nose: One of the most pleasant I've ever tested. Even with the higher alcohol content, absolutely no alcohol odour. I could detect vanilla, cherry griotte, tropical fruit, sweet red wine and a wooden wine barrel in the aroma.
Mouth: It's rather drier and there's quite a lot of wood and alcohol sharpness. After all, 48% of it is already noticeable. Caramel, cocoa, pepper, burnt wood and unsweet cherries were recognized on the palate.
Finish: Medium to long.
Conclusion: This was my second rum from this distillery (after The Real McCoy 12), and even though they are more of a drier rums, they really appealed to me. They are fragrant, smooth with a lingering flavor.
Overall rating: 9 out of 10
Superb - really enjoyed this, sadly finished too quickly and need to order some more. This was flavourful, aromatic, with a good long finish. Seriously nice.
Wow, nice foursquare Ron I like it so much. Even when it is stronger about alcohol, but it is not problem. Dry but smooth. I like it.
One of the very best in its price range.
Very round, and crazy length.
Fruity nose but then a more oak/vanilla mouth, super easy to enjoy, hard not to take another glass
Caribbean rum at its finest .RL seale you rock my world , a depth on the nose of oak and cask rum . Flavours on sipping starting with a light caramel then going to full oak caks taste ... If I could fill a bar with rum this certainly has to be there
wow. this is really a very good rum. lovely blood orange after taste (not bitter or valencia orange for me). some burnt caramel and very dark chocolate. not sweetened that i can detect. i am buying this and trying the 12 and XO as well. this is really something.
Not sure if it's the extra age or the slightly higher proof, but this bottle fixes the issue I had with Doorly's 12. For me, the Doorly's 12 still has some harshness on the finish that I don't enjoy. This on the other hand, I would be happy to sip. It's no Foursquare ECS release, which is why I'm only giving it an 8, but this is reasonably a very solid 8.5 rum, especially for the price. I will be skipping the Doorly's 12 from now on, and sticking with XO for mixing (incredible mixer) and the 14 for a fantastic value sipper.
I'm not sure how 2 more years can elevate this that much over the 12 year, but it does. This is one of the best bottles I've had that I can still find on the shelf. And for the price!!
The nose just pops. Very aromatic; vanilla, oak, spice, a slight burn to it.
The vanilla and oak continue into the palate, and just sit there for days. Great mouth feel, slightly warming. My only complaint is that the finish isn't super complex. However, the only rums I put over this were double or triple $$, if you can even find them.
Woody oak notes dominate initially giving to some fruit.
"Lots of ginger and spicy oak on the initial entry. There is a slightly bDoorly's Fine Old Barbados Rum Aged 14 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateitter note in the oak notes. A slight astringency. Finish wise we are left with a spicy and slightly heated end to the rum."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is an easy '10' rum, I gave it a 9 because you're not going to find the 14-yr old in just any liquor store you walk into. Not easy finding the 12-yr old either. Both are excellent, love the bottle too!
