Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

I tasted this rum some months ago. I liked it, it is rich in flavours and has its complexity.
This one is the one that got me into rum. Like most Americans, I've only had the most basic rums that have been used as mixers and not something worth truly sipping.
I'm still new in the "world of rum", but the Zacapa is the one that made me think of rum as something else than something to mix with coke (the beverage...). Still one of the best I have tasted
Excelente! Muy agradable para todos los sentidos! No puedes dejar de tomar este Ron
Was highly anticipating trying this, and I think it lived up to my expectations. Not the best rum I’ve ever tried, in my limited experience, but definitely a great choice (all things considered: price, flavour, finish etc.). Highly recommend!
This is one of the smoothest rums I have ever had. Hints of Vanilla and Caramel. Very good and Very smooth, will not disappoint.
There were mixed reviews on this and thought I would give it a try. On the nose it has a very strong whiff of rubbing alcohol. Kind of like Bacardi Black was what came to mind. Followed by hints of brown sugar and caramel.
Flavor is on the sweet side, with hints of oak, vanilla and caramel. Better on the rocks than neat. I have not tried mixing it but I can see it going well with a splash of Coke.
I was really hoping this was going to be a great rum but I am a little disappointed. It does not live up to the hype. It's good but not great.
A Lovely bottle of rum if you like them sweeter...
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

"The interplay between the wood of the barrel and the liquor contents gives the alcohol its flavour, colour and character..."

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

On the nose, I feel mostly banana and a mix of tropical fruits. Easy drinking rum to start your evening. Always will have a place in my cupboard.
