Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

Amazing brown-mahogany color. Nose similar to a well aged whisky. Strong aromas of sherry oak and american oak sweetness. Tastes very smooth and sweet - with lots of caramel, coffee and prunes or figs. the sugar cane honey makes it round and sweet with no edges and flaws.

This rum has a sweet flavored, lightly smoked, deep, colorful vanilla taste. This bottle deserves his place in your rum collection.
I buy always 2 bottles, because the first one is always so quickly empty.

i really enjoyed to drink this rum. for the pricetag you can't really expect more. a very good balanced rum with a sweet body. the finish is good, but nothing really special. the flavour doesn't hold to long but overall a very good rum and definitely to recomend.

Even though it says, that this rum is at his best on the rocks, I enjoyed it more straight up, because on the rocks it looses quickly on quality.

I drink rum straight up. The Ron Zacapa Solera 23 is nowhere near as smooth as other aged rums. In fact, I find it to be more than a bit harsh and oddly sweet at the same time. As such, sometimes I can tolerate it, and other times I find the alcohol burn to be a bit too much. Holding it in the mouth results in a scope mouthwash like burn, not unpleasant, but not what I'm looking for in a quality sipping rum. With that in mind, it's simply not smooth enough for the price. It does have a nice color and looks good in the glass. I absolutely don't like it mixed with Coke.

Diplomatico Reserva was one of my favorites (bang for buck), however after picking up RZ 23 at the airport, I had to admit the better overall smoothness.
