Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)
Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.
The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.
The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

In view of the mixed reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. I did not find it smooth at first but after giving it a second shot I start really to enjoy it. The long flavour is sweet but not too sweet, with some flavours of vanilla, almond, chocolate, cacao. A very good rum imo, but I am looking forward to taste the XO.
Un de mes premiers rhums. Assez sec comparé à bcp de rhum liquoreux. Des arômes très subtils. A avoir dans on bar !
Exquisite rum experience, well worth the price (€50 - €55 at Carrefour stores near me). On the sweet side, but a perfectly balanced sweetness for many of us, with subtle flavours that intrigue. It's said that, while many low-price whiskies are quite satisfying when drunk straight, low-price or even medium-price rums are usually too rough to sip directly ... but in contrast, some high-price rums are better than any whisky, with levels of subtlety to rival great French wines, and giving a fullness of palate pleasure no whisky could ever rival. Ron Zacapa 23 is one of those rums you can use to argue this case. Wonderful.
Has a wonderful caramel taste. Enjoyed with cola. It is one of my favourite rums
Its a nice deep balanced rum. Blend from 5 to 23 years
Probably one of the sweetest rums I've tasted and incredibly smooth, not sure if it's as sweet as the Zaya. Was a little disappointed to learn the the colors and sweetness are added, but it is an overall pleasant rum to be sipping with it's vanilla and caramel tones.
Great sipping rum with tastes of tobacco, chocolate and molasses.
Tried this while on honeymoon in Vanuatu last October. Been trying to get my hands on another bottle since.
I'm a long-time Bundaberg Rum drinker (have 150 bottles in the collection), as that rum dominates the market in Australia. I've tried 20-30 different Bundaberg Rum's, but this takes the cake.
If you are a rum drinker that likes their rum sweet...Then this is for you. Can drink neat, but I enjoyed it best with a mixer.
I rated it a 7, only because in my opinion it's not at that level to enjoy purely on a neat basis. None the less its a beautiful drinking rum.
A little too sweet for my liking, which leaves it a little unbalanced.
But as far as drinkability goes, its right up there. Very moreish, and if you are not careful, you end up finishing the bottle.
This is simply one of the best aged rums on the market!
Actually quite dry and oaky.
"Flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate."
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and raisined fruit...

Decanted, the rum displays a surprising body in the glass for something so apparently light, and has slow and strong legs down the side of the glass.

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
