Guatemala | Aged | 40% ABV | Column Still (1-4)

Ron Zacapa 23 Solera Rum was created in 1976 in the highlands of Guatemala, where it is distilled in a copper-lined column still from fresh cane juice before solera aging.

The 500 year-old Spanish Sistema Solera method is used to age Ron Zacapa 23 in white oak casks. This results in a combination of rums aged between 6 and 23 years.

The current Ron Zacapa 23 bottle features a woven band around the middle, which is in reference to the original hand woven palm leaf petate bottle cover that covered the bottle.

This is a great rum. Very smooth. I think I actually prefer this to the Zacapa XO.

I' belive a blind test between the this and the XO would bring surprising results. But I still prferr the XO for a very special moment. And this rum for a nice end of the day.

rather one of my favorites due to the sweeter character, but i wonder if it's from addition of sugars as the sweetness doesn't seem to come from natural distilled liquid affected by oak aging.

still a commendable flavor profile.

it was even better when the price was lesser than now days as it seems Diageo has increased prices too frequently to make this less attractive for my wallet/palate preference ratio.

in conclusion, if you care not for price history and prefer sweeter profile, a good choice.

if you are very experienced and well versed in rum, steer clear!
if you are new to rum experience, do invest for tasting!

I know loads of people rave about this but I literally couldn't drink this neat.

Lots of chemicals on the nose and follows through into the taste.

I thought the bottle would wallow on my creaking shelves forever until I tried it with ginger beer (always old Jamaica) and it redeemed itself a lot.

Still not as good a dark n stormy as elements 8 spiced rum and a bit expensive for a mixer in my mind.

Would've been a 3 without my ginger beer discovery.

Ce rhum de Zacapa possède l'essentiel des qualités et particularités de la gamme Zacapa offert à un prix abordable. Il faut lui faire honneur en le dégustant sans mélange et chambré, en ballon.

Oooh, YEAH !!! This one was my first real foray into the world of premium rums, and it was then that my palate realized what it had been missing; caramel sweetness & mild vanilla flavors lead the way, with a super-smooth finish that doesn't disappoint. Straight-up, maybe with a little ice (one cube only) and we be very happy, indeed. Cheers!

The rum is fine. Sweet wtih nuts and oak tones, but there are lots of better choices in this price category.
