Abuelo Gran Reserva 12-Year

One of the sweeter rums I’ve ever tried. Very smooth. Subtle vanilla. Lacking in spice or anything else memorable. I use this to introduce people to rum or to people with a sweet tooth.

At Rum Club in Portland, OR - very sweet vanilla nose, soft on the palate with a slight burning finish. Overall a very good dipping rum served neat.

Dry and fruity, reminds me of whiskeys, but not in a bad way. It is an interesting rum for sure.

N- Not as zesty as the 7YO, also not as caramelize with more natural ripe fruit sweetness, which is better. Strawberry milkshake, creamy chocolate and sweet crushed nuts. Loud presents of oak with pounded clove. (20/25)

P- Pleasantly oak-y with clove and sweet spice at fore, get fruitier and sweeter overtime. (18/25)

F- Short, oak sphere, smooth with nice fruit sweetness but with tinge of sugary at tail. (18/25)

Balanced- Acceptable fruit sweetness that aren't cloying, uncomplicated and relax. Lack of width to gives more. (19/25)

Being partial to sweet rums, I could not but like it. Bit too sharp alcohol nose when poured, much better when aired. More like sherry based Spanish brandies than like Cognac. Nice soft lingering aftertaste of caramel, vanilla and tobacco.

Doesn't smell very intense. Great taste of vanilla and very smooth. I will order it again.

Un muy buen ron maduro, el cual tiene lo justo de dulzura, no raspa al pasar y se siente la vainilla y madera. Tómalo como te de la gana, igual lo vas a disfrutar.

Celkovo slušný rum, obal je podľa mňa dosť priemerný, fľaša nie je priesvitná, takže farba rumu zostáva ako prekvapenie až po naliatí. K prekvapeniu farba je tmavšia ako som čakal. Vôňa rumu je sladká, vanilková s drevitými tónmi. Abuelo 12 je jemný, vyvážený, trochu dymový, dá sa cítiť vanilka, sladké ovocie so stredne dlhým záverom. Zreje v dubových sudoch po whisky, čo mu dáva na záver špecifickú príchuť. Tomuto rumu sa nedá nič extra zlé vytknúť, ale pil som už aj zaujímavejšie rumy. Taký lepší priemer.
