Abuelo Gran Reserva 12-Year

De laatste uit mijn Tasting Collection en wellicht de beste. Waar een deel geen echt sipper was, is deze daar uitermate geschikt voor. Lekkere neus, tikje caramel en een vleugje rokerig. Smaak heel lekker, pure rum. Lekkere lange en rokerige nasmaak. Hier wil ik wel een fles van!

Nose is aromatic tobacco and fruit.

Mouthfeel is light with minimal burn.

Taste is very sweet right up front, little bit of wood that gives way to sugary sweetness. Not a bad rum, necessarily but it doesn't make my top 5 even for the $35 I paid for it.

Very pleasant oak nose with much stronger oak finish. Only slightly sweet. Very smooth body. Overall very enjoyable.

Pro mě pecka.
Relativně rozumná cena, příjemná nasládlost, krásné dřevité tóny v chuti.

Smooth on the front end with hints of chocolate on the back.

No es el tipo de ron que me gusta. Olor de madera, muy poderoso. Color de un añejo potente. El sabor.: presencia de roble muy fuerte sin poder sacar ningun otro sabor. Parece que lo han rellenado a un barril podrido. A mi no me convence.

Aged in Bourbon cask.

After my initial introduction to the fabulous 7-years old Abuelo some years ago, the time had come for me to get to know its 12-years old brother, my expectations being really high....but the awakening was rather rude! Although it's older, it's even sweeter, and if in the case of the 7-years old the balance between dryness-sweetness is succeeded in an exemplary manner, here in our case we are talking about an intense sugary palate, a feature that covers nearly everything else. Yes, it is a pleasant rum after all, but I wouldn't prefer my rum to be as sweet as a birthday cake!

Smooth taste and no harsh taste. Good on ice or with water an some soda

This is an excellent rum to start with, or to start a tasting session. The only complaint i might have is it's maybe a bit too sweet.
