Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year rum

Pusser's British Navy Blue Label ABV40 3-Year

Virgin Islands, British | Aged | 40% ABV

The Great British Admiralty first served rum daily to its Royal Navy sailors over 300 years ago until the ration was abolished in 1970. In 1979 Charles Tobias bought the recipe rights, formed Pusser’s Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands, and for the first time made the rum it available for public consumption.

Pusser’s British Navy rum today is the same blend of five West Indian rums as the British Admiralty issued to sailors.

Known as the “single malt of rum” Pusser’s British Navy rum is pot stilled using a similar method as that for single malt scotches, and with no artificial flavors is 100% natural.

Rich, warming, semi-sweet, balanced, for a good price, I love it. I am amazed how fast it always disappears, I have not even managed to try this one with coke yet. Nice balance of demerara, oak and spices. The nose is strong and spicy, the body is so full and warming it makes me thinking of this rum on winter evenings. The mix of rums styles plays very well together and creates a complex taste, with a recognizable Jamaica and Guayana/Demerara roots, raisins, alspice and molasses. I have to go and enlist the navy. Excellent value for money. It is both an honestly crafted rum, and also its taste profile is also very likable and would satisfy all sorts of rum consumers, from the beginners who like it sweet, to the orthodox rum drinkers who like their rum rather dry. Reedit - the last bottle I bought 02/2021 had unusually heavy and bitter molasses in the smell and taste, turning the rum bitter, harsh and worse overall, forcing me to mix it with coke - the last bottle gets score 5 on my scale.

Dangerous stuff. Could not have as first drink as very strong and overpowering.

Peux se déguster mais il est moins dans ma palette de rhum que j'aime. Ressemble plus a un whisky qu'à un rhum..

dissapointed, like the title say i've tasted better for half the price, maybe in a mixer.
#Edit by the end of the bottle i wont say it was perfect, but it has grown on me slightly and add an extra bottle to the Rating.

Strong and rich, I chose this to mark the 50th anniversary of “Black Tot Day”. There are some very perceptible, volatile esters on the nose, aromas of ripe banana, Playdough, raw cookie dough, Frank Cooper’s marmalade and pear. On the palate, it’s molasses, prune, wood and spice, with a slightly hot finish. This is a great sipper but I could also see it used as a flavourful mixer.

Aroma reminded me of Xmas smells, raisins, fruitcake, spiced butter

Taste lots of oaky bitterness and has quite the burn. Definitely not a supper but decent in a zombie or painkiller. Not so hot in a daiquri in my opinion too bitter

I agreed with many reviewers below. This rum is a benchmark with which many should be compared. Most would not measure up. This stuff is GREAT. Wonderfully complex with molasses, raisin, and toffee notes. Much more lingering in the background. 100% natural. Not sweet. Nice alcohol bite. Scotch style stills produce a tremendously smooth rum. True “Navy Style”. Great long finish. I was surprised to learn although it is a blend of rums, Guyanese is the main component. Sorry El Dorado fans. This Guyana rum is superior. Highly recommended!

Found this different than a lot of rum that I’ve tasted. Sweeter to begin and an interesting warmth at the end. Gives it some character that I like even if it isn’t one of my favorite rums to sip in the world.

Pinched a bottle of this from one of Her Majesty's "privateers". Wasn't impressed at first, but it grew on me like barnacles on the hull of me ship. She smells sweeter than she tastes: lots of oak, spices, fruits, a wee bit of molasses on the end, and a decent burn. Some landlubbers talk of mixin' this with other drinks. Avast, I'll be dancin' with Jack Ketch before I pollute any rum... and this be a decent rum!

Bought to taste a piece of history, wasnt disappointed. Initial flavor was better, but faded. Would buy again.
