Disappointment, for his price. Aroma some banana and fruit. Taste very short and sharp from alcohol, filling that rum very young.
Good stuff, fine smell, taste as well, this is average good rum for good price.
I didn't realize until after buying this that its a low ester Worthy Park offering, so its really nothing like a funky Jamaican rum, which is what I was expecting. However, its a very good rum anyway. Its dry and has a whisky like character to it, and is one of the better examples of whisky-like rum that I've tried.
I'm not very good at using words to describe the flavor, but I do get the banana influence. It has a fairly long finish and is very smooth for 45% ABV, and tastes like a lot of effort went into making a high quality product. I'm happy to see Mr. Rumantic also gave it the same rating as I did, and was able to elaborate more on the flavor profile that he perceived. He also mentioned that if being super-critical he might consider it to be a little too watery, I don't really agree with that, but I might understand what he means. The higher ABV and flavor profile might normally be associated with a more syrupy and velvety mouthfeel, but this is intense yet lighter bodied. Apologies if I mis-understood, but that's my take on it.
edit: after a bit of time to reflect on this, I'd have to say this rum is a bit one-dimensional and I lost interest in it pretty quickly as it sat on my bar along side 20 other rums. I blended in some Hamilton Pot Still Black to give it a bit more character, and I like it better after the blending. As a result I'm dropping my rating from an 8 to a 7. I get that it was never intended to be a Jamaican funk style, but I got bored with it so quickly for what it was that I needed to make it more interesting.
Spiced oak and some banana on the nose. Clean and moderately flavorful. Slightly astringent on the mid-palate. Relatively simple flavor profile. Spicy finish.
Chocolate, toffee and caramel.
"Notes of oak and vanilla along with some slightly hot ginger. ."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I can tolerate this rum neat, or with ice. But it is not worthy of the price. Diplomatico or Plantation XO special, is way better than this stuff. The Diplomatico costs $65, The Plantation is $80, and this garbage was $85.
