First time trying a overproof rum and it was exactly what you'd expect from a 151 proof rum.
A lot of alcohol burn.
On the palet it tasted like peanuts, but only for a short while because the alcohol took over.
For a mixer it is not so bad using a tiny bit, but for a sipping rum, would not recommend it.
I normally ignore 151 overproof rums, but my fence builder inspired me to try one. On the first day, he ripped down my old fence and stuck six new posts in concrete to cure overnight. I paid him part of his labor fee. The next day, he told me that he bought a bottle of Bacardi 151 and drank the whole bottle last night with no ice or mixer. He was not hung over! I told him that it was because it had no added sugar. Granted he is a quarter of a century younger than me and about 25 percent heavier, but being able to drink a whole bottle of Bacardi 151 and still come to work the next day to finish building my fence was truly amazing!
A few days later, I went looking for the Cruzan 151, which is rated better on this site. I could not find the Bacardi or Cruzan, but being a big fan of Don Q Anejo and a few other ones from them, I gladly bought this Don Q 151. Just like their Don Q Anejo, it has a wonderful aroma. I would not even think of drinking this one neat, but on the rocks was quite a flavorful and pleasant experience. There are also lots of warnings on the bottle about getting it too close to flames or high heat. This one should be light years above the Bacardi 151, pun intended.
After further review, this may taste decent on the rocks at first, but once it gets into my system, I truly feel like I have been poisoned by excessive alcohol. I used it instead of premium tequila to make rumritas. Don't do this!!!! You WILL be sorry! And down the rankings it tumbled!
Aroma is lihtt and woody. Taste is not so much burning as you would expect from 75.5%. Naturaly sweet with vanilla, tobacco and some agricole like tones. 3y of aging definitely helps. The price (35Eur in Czecch Republic) is very fair. Good for mixing but also straight is not bad.
This overproof rum is realy suitable for cocktails. You just use a small amount to get a nice taste in your cocktail. Personally i dont realy like the line of don q, as they are to dry for me. In cocktails they are good enough
Tasted at Laka Lono on February 20, 2022
I'm not sure what I was thinking, sampling an overproof as my 4th rum of the afternoon but here we are.
I sipped and then moved on to a daiquiri form by Michael.
notes indicate: This rum cleaned my pores. it's fine. it's fine.
I tried neat and i liked. It's perfect for cocktails where is needed. There is a punch, but aroma is there as well. Still Plantation O.F.T.D. is better.
Very strong need to be careful on how much I drink of this very good
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I got this to make an allspice dram. It made that well, but I like to try any ingredients that I use. It is exactly as I expected. A bit of a run taste initially, but then the alcohol hits. But I think it decent for an over proof rum.
