Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Smoth taste and rugged finish. Hints of vanilla and spice. Nice long warming finish.
A beautiful peice of rum you can taste the aged syrup like distilled molasses. A great drink!
Opravdu dobrý rum. Velmi dobře vyvážená jemnost i chuť.
Fruity nose.
Taste wise I found it to be smooth and easy to drink. Used ice but it really was not needed. Fruitiness and the spice really flows through. Just an awesome rum.
I like the bottle and the new packaging aswell
Had this in an old fashioned in a cocktail bar, prob with to much ice but rum still shone through great rum for price
Mount Gay has a reputation and succeeds fully with these Extra Old edition, the flavors are delicious and consist mainly of lemon and banana with some hints of cocoa and molasses.

This is a solid, unsweetened sipping rum (just my style). It boasts a lovely bouquet, and a moderately complex flavor profile. It gives me most of what I want in a rum, making it a good everyday sipper or aperitif rum.
My only complaint is that it doesn't bring enough to the table. I'm not quite sure what it needs—more pot-still? more aging? Probably. But the main thing that would benefit this rum in my opinion is less dilution. Mount Gay was on the right track upping the ABV from 40% to 43% for this and their Black Barrel releases, but it's not quite enough. With slightly less dilution, I think Mt. Gay would have hit it out of the park (this is the first such rum I've tried where I've strongly felt this way); as it is, it's just not terribly exciting, and there's little to entice me back rather than try something new.
I'd be interested in their limited cask-strength releases, but they're far too rich for my blood. I think even this XO could also stand to be a few dollars cheaper, but that's just me.

It is spicy especially on the finish and a little bit short.
"The nose is very fruity. Raisin, prunes and currants with a little banana and some tropical fruits a little pineapple perhaps."

Drink it slow... Very smooth and classy tasting... I drank it with ice and it got better and better
