Mount Gay 1703 rum includes rums aged between 10 and 30 years that are joined by master distiller Allen Smith.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703, hence the rum's name. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

A gift from a very good friend, and is now on my must have list. I felt it had a small bite. Liked it better on the rocks than straight. Nice aroma
This older rum has a whiskey bite but is very enjoyable mixed with cola or on the rocks straight.
Wow this is some good stuff; very smooth.
Nice balance dry and sweet.
I really like the mount gay flavour profile and this is the best
If you like the Mount Gay brand you will no doubt enjoy this. I find most of its ratings a bit over done. It was not spectacular, but it is definitely a quality rum.
The aroma in the bottle is nice...very nice. I can't really describe it but it is a positive sign. Upon sipping I detect a spicy oak (but very little of the bitterness that sometimes come with oak aging) along with a slight hint of sugar cane sweetness which becomes more apparent in the finish. Not a harsh burn but a pleasant enveloping warmth that flows down the throat before fading. Definitely a sipping rum.
Sugar: 0 gpl. This is an old time kind of rum. There is no sweetness to this rum. It's a dry but very smooth rum and it packs a punch in the mouth kind of heat. The heat fades and you are left with this nice after burn that lasts for quite a while so you can take your time with it. Dominant taste of oak and vanilla with a trace of caramel toffee. This is a well balanced rum and if you are a whiskey drinker this this will be a great rum for you, but I like my rums with a bit more sweetness and some other flavours in addition to the oak and vanilla.
None of the syrupy sweetness to be found in many other "premium aged rums", this is the real thing. All character in this rum is achieved by careful distillation and aging, not by adding sugar.
Robust, leathery, fruity, oakey - but all so well integrated into a complex whole that none seems to jump out, like the voices in an outstanding barbershop quartet.
If you find yourself tiring of the costant parade of rum old fashioneds masquerading as "premium rums", this is one you will want to try. If you don't want to spend the ~$100 or so it will set you back, Mt Gay extra old is not a bad runner up.
Nice, unique taste to it. Can identify banana, vanilla and cocos.
Pleasant alcohol burn to it.
After a while this rum became even nicer, changed my score from an 8 to a 9.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Esperaba más de este ron premium, falto de sabores, solo se distingue olor y sabor a madera
