Dominican Republic | Aged | 40% ABV
Matusalem Gran Reserva 15-year rum is produced using a combination of rums aged on average 15 years and distilled from molasses using the solera process.
The Matusalem company was established in 1872 originally in Santiago de Cuba. The company fled the country following the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the Gran Reserva rum is now produced in the Dominican Republic.

Enjoyable easy sipper. Not all that complex but has very good flavours on the exhale. Most of the flavours I found came at the back of the drink. Worth having in the cabinet.
Almost everyone complains about the booziness and sweetness. And within minutes out the bottle that is absolutely true.
Luckily, I waited for my ice ball to melt a little. Everything transformed. The smoothness others mention came to life. While it isn't the most complex, the body holds up well even as it mellows.
This is an underrated gem. A very nice rum for a relaxed evening.
Aroma, colour just average. Taste mild - hard to feel something special but smooth for drinking.
Enjoyable. I just was 3 weeks in Diminican Republic and I've never seen a bottle of Matusalem. Only Barcelo, Brugal, Permudez, Opthimus, Cubaney, UNHIQ and Punta Cana in the local Shops and Bars
Well its ok for sipping, but there is nothing special on the palate just the average taste you would expect from a rum in this price class.
when you see nr.15 on the label, you would probably expect more. but its still good rum, with kind of stronger afterburn similar to 7-rated rums in my cabinet.
71/100
Smooth and very well blended.
"The aftertaste is quite spicy and hot. Not in an alcohol burn way."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
