Kraken Black Spiced

Not a sipping rum for me. Was good mixed with a few sodas but not really what I go for in a rum.

Let me start by saying I love this stuff, but I have definitely grown apart from it as my experiences with other rums has grown.

It is dark and delicious, but also very sweet. Lots of great flavors here, but it does end up being the sum of its parts rather than something greater.

Having tried other black/spiced rums since this one, I can say this is one of the best I've found... despite the rum blend itself being somewhat lost in the spice blend and the sweetness.

Mix this one for sure, and you'll talk like a pirate in no time.

Ok, I've been drinking dark rum and dark spices rum for about 12 months now (in fact I think it is my pandemic drink!), anyway once people know you're into rum you always get asked what you think to Kraken! So after a year today was my first taste of it. I have to say that right off the bat I didn't like it (but Lidls Liberte is my fave in this price bracket), but after a few glasses (and I only drink them neat unless they are particularly bad rums) I actually started to enjoy it. Not as sweet as I like and I don't get too much vanilla, but I do get the hot spices (ginger, pepper and cinnamon). One of my top 5 though (but still lots more to try).

One of my favourite dark rums. Is nice on its own but works well with multiple mixers such as coke or fruit juices. Great base for cocktails too. A really really nice dark rum

I like the dark colour and the bottle. As for the taste: too sweet, and obviously as flat as a calm sea. Great for cocktails.

Not a huge fan of any spiced rums, they are usually over the top in flavor profile as they're meant to be mixed. Kraken is too strong and forward in spiciness, and that makes it great in some drinks. It's the perfect spiced rum for a dark and stormy which is only reason I have it. The bottle is very cool and no doubt that's why many people are first attracted to it.

I think, Kraken is best rum in price-quality ratio. It tastes little sweater with slight pepper tones. I know that rum is not recommended to drink cooled, but this one's taste is very interesting when it's temperature is slightly lowered

heavy in vanilla notes, which is pleasant. body is nice as well but lacking a little in complexity. not great bit terrible
